Dashcam run from power outlet

Featured Replies

Just fitted a dashcam to my Fabia SE L MPI 75, but I have one problem that I hope someone can help with. Like a lot of dashcams, it is powered from the power outlet/cigar lighter and is switched on/records as soon as it is plugged in, recording continuously and overwriting previous recordings when the SD card is full. So ideally what I need is for the power outlet only to be energised when the ignition is on, otherwise I have to remember to plug it in and unplug it on every trip. I've looked in the manual and it confirms that the power outlet is permanently on, not ignition controlled but I wonder if anyone knows whether it can be reconfigured to be ignition controlled?

Just use a jumper/double fuse from a switch live in the fusebox. I've done this in my last two cars and I've spliced into the internal light power for two others before that. 5 min job tops. Well, hiding the cable tends to take longer.
