Both front doors not registering

Featured Replies

I'm having a issue with both of my octy mk1 vRs 2003 front doors. They are not registering at all.

Symptoms

The puddle lights are not turning on

The door open icon won't light when I open the front passenger or driver door

The central locking will lock the doors automatically after unlocking and opening the doors

The interior lights won't turn on when opening the front doors

However

Both rear passenger doors work just fine. The lights turn on and the dash indicator for the doors works like it should.

Boot light works like it should.

Yesterday I gutted the front driver side door and disassembled the locking mechanism. The contacts where fine and I did not find any issues with the micro switch.

I've also checked the fuses with a multimeter.

Any help would be very much appreciated. I really don't have a clue on what to check next.

Edit: added few deatails

It will be the door lock mechanisms. Can be bought from eBay for £15 + a piece. Easy enough diy job. The microswitch will have failed internally. There is a how to to replace the switch but when mine went I replaced the mechanism.

Thank you for the input. I'll double check the operation of the switch with a multimeter.  I thkink I have some micro switches somewhere that could work as a replacement if needed.

And £15! That's cheap. If that shipped to Finland I'd buy it in a heartbeat and wouldn't bother tinkering. :/

is what you need !

I actually used that guide as a reference in the diassembly of the door

I'll report later when I've checked the switch.

I've come to the conclusion that the switch is working. I tested the continuity on it and no problmes. It might not activate physically if the nob on top of it has worn down. Anyhow I slightly assisted it and pushed it with a flathead screwdriver and wiggled the door latch mechanisms. Nothing happened.

I don't think there's much else in the system that would give those symptoms. I'd source a donor unit and plug it in to see if the lights etc operate when the door is open. It's such a common issue I'd bet it's the mechanism that's causing the issue.

I think you're right. I'll look for something that ships to Finland and doesn't cost almost £90 :D

It's not really a big issue anyways. It's just annoying.

So after almost two years of getting annoyed with the doors I finally ordered new door lock mechanisms. I changed both the passenger and the driver side. The passenger side started to work immediately but the driver side still had some issues. I did some testing again with the wires and I found out that two wires were broken. The other one was the power to the courtesy light and the other one was the wire for the door lock mechanism micro switch. I added some new wire to the harness and now both doors are functioning as they should. Thank you again for the tips :)
