Sperb2 Estate Tailgate courtesy lights don't work

Featured Replies

Hi.

The two Courtesy lamps which sit on the upper inner tailgate trim that illuminate my estates cargo area have both stopped working, any ideas how I can remove the tailgate cards/trim to check the connectors which may have got water into the gubbins.

It's not the bulbs as Ive checked those

remove the pull down handle with one screw and from memory its just a yank to pull the cover off.

getting it back on is so much more fun than that though so do all you can before removing it.

do you have power to the lamp holders?

remove the torch incase that's shorting out and clearly check the fuse

There's deffo power to the torch as that continues to charge, Ive now had the Plastic cover off but I just cant see anything that would cause 2 interior lights to not work, power must be getting to the tailgate as the Number  plate lights are on and the rear wiper and washer works fine, I can't see any broken cables or such like...is there a separate fuse purely  for the Tailgate courtesy lamps?

What condition is the wiring between the tailgate and body in? Can you pull back the rubber sheath and get a look inside?

Cable seems fine, though without ripping off the entire inner panel trim I have noticed that a lot of the Screenwash fluid is coming out of the lower trim inside the tailgate, I had always wondered why it had formed along the lower lip of the tailgate.

I think it;s going to be a trip to my local garage, they can remove the trim and see why the screenwash is pouring into the inner tailgate, maybe it got frozen and split last winter or some previous winter....the Screenwash still gets to the rear screen though..

I should of replied before now, it turned out to be water running down the inside of the tailgate into the switch and a new switch cured it.

@blood
what switch was it that was replaced in tailgate to fix the courtesy lights 😉
Was it the full lock mechanism?

I think you are indeed right, it was the mechanism just above the handle that the water entered.
