High Revs between gear changes

Hi guys,

My 2005 fabia vrs is revving very high between gear changes. This happens between second gear and six gear, however when the clutch is dipped and this happens a dab on the brakes brings the revs back to idle. Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Jack

@JackGilly - OK, without VCDS evidence this is a bit of a guess, but your throttle position sensor may not be supplying correct signals to the EMS when you lift. This is supported by the fact that applying the brakes automatically sends a signal from the pedal switch to the EMS and the EMS is programmed to select idle throttle whilst it's getting this signal.

Hi.

Thanks a lot for the reply. Turns out the new front tires I had on the car that were the wrong profile caused the problem. I've now changed back over to the correct tire profile 205/45/16r and this has sorted it.

Thanks again.

@JackGilly - Thanks for that; it's a perfect illustration of how incomplete information can lead someone to a wrong diagnosis for entirely logical reasons!

On the subject of tyre size, it would be OK to run, say, 215/40R16s rather than the stock 205/45s as long as you fit the 215s all round rather than just changing one end.
