Rear disk replacement

Featured Replies

Hi, after nearly 2 years of Octy ownership I'm about to get the spanners on it for the first time to change all the disks:

Unlike on a Mk 2 Golf GTi/Corrado (cars I've changed disks on before), the rear disk looks like it is independent of the hub bearing - can someone confirm this is the case? If so the job should be much easier:D

These older VWs required a bearing to be driven into the new disk before fitting, a tedious job without the correct tools.

Thanks!

If the same as the Fabia which i think it is, then its an independant disk, easy enough job, just remember to get a windback tool ready for the caliper piston :)

Cheers, and I've found that a cycle tool I already have (for an older bottom bracket) is fine for winding the calipers in - it worked on the VWs too. As the calipers turn easily I suspect there are other tools which could be used for the job if care is taken.

I removed the caliper and retaining screw to see if the disk would simply 'fall off' whel levered gently but it did not. I guess some persuasion with a hammer or puller is sometimes needed?

Yup a wee dead blow hammer done the trick nicely, didnt take too much persuading TBH, one of my callipers wound back really easilly but the other was a complete bitch, once i had broken the friction it was ok, but i neary popped out some plies doing it :D
