First Impressions

Featured Replies

I picked up my new Superb today, it's a 150 TDI DSG SEL Executive hatch.

I've only done 34 miles in it so far, and I'm already very impressed with it. It's very smooth, quiet and comfortable. It's much more refined than my old car, a diesel GTC, and despite being a much larger car and without me even trying due to the low miles and it being the first time I've driven it, the Superb seems so much more responsive. I tried the ACC briefly, and that's brilliant, if a little sharp on the brakes (but it worked!) I never noticed the dreaded throttle lag, the DSG worked fine (I have had one before) and no rattles or squeaks so far, as some others have reported.

It looks so much more expensive than it was, I even got a nod and a smile from an Audi A6 driver at the lights.

I have yet to work out the finer details of most of the gadgets and gizmos, especially the Columbus infotainment system (and, yes, that's a finger print magnet and a half!), but I would appreciate any advice on what VCDS changes can be made.

I have noticed one unexpected specification to my 150 TDI (that's what I ordered), when I fuelled it up it has an Adblue filler, is this a new addition to MY2018 150 TDI models, or have I somehow ended up with a 190?

@ Fatso - yes 2018 2.0 TDI 150hp has AdBlue, different from 2017 (again EURO 6) which does not.

Hopefully you will get less regenerations (did I get this right?)

Ah, right. I settled on the 150 due to reports on here, and in other reviews, that it wasn't really worth the extra to go for the 190. I also wanted to avoid having to faff about with the Adblue system.

Neither of my last 2 diesels have done a regeneration as such as they get at least 1 hour twice a day on the motorway most days.

I like the engine, very balanced.

All the best && enjoy it.

I get regenerations (at least I assume the fan running like mad after I stop is what folks mean) and I have a commute of 1 hour minimum each way on dual carriageways, so it doesn't seem to correlate for me.  Either that or I'm not driving the car properly...!

When I got my first VW TDI with a DPF I was advised to drive it at at least 40MPH for at least 20 minutes at least once a week to keep the DPF clear  and to avoid regenerations.

Actually it's not only driving style, although it matters. One trigger is the soot mass, I truly believe there is a fixed interval as well. No matter the soot mass.

Driving 4 hours on highway 120km/h, once I enter the city a regen starts. Either the speed has enough cooling and DPF can't reach the temperature needed OR it has fixed miles/km (as well).

I've been diging deep into this subject and recognizing each regen.

Recently bought Android app to measure the parameters, but missing good BlueTooth adapter yet. Having testing it for few days I caught it around 180-200km and a preventive regen starts..

It won't avoid regens as such but just make sure the DPF reaches the optimum temperature to carry out a passive regen and cleanly burn off any soot in the filter.

It will however, avoid *active* regens as the DPF will seldom get to it's 45% soot loading threshold.

Yeah, that's what I meant

I got my MY2018 2.0 150 TDI Superb SE Business last week and it doesn't have an Adblue filler

Have a look here. I asked the question when I first had a diesel S3. The tech is quite sophisticated these days. I did a lot of short journeys and never had any problems with regens. Yes they would not finish sometimes but would restart again without issue. I was advised to just drive and not worry about it, I would advise the same based on my experience with the non  ad blue 150 TDI.

I am now, thankfully, fully recovered from that aberration and am back with a petrol S3 :biggrin:

@Sagalout, what is short journey in your perspective?

How many mile overall did you do with the diesel?

@TTtodorov

Mostly country lanes, slow speeds (30-45 mph/50-70kph). Many journeys no more than 10 miles (16kms). Average journey 25 miles. Total 12000 miles in 18 months. Some longer motorway journeys and one euro trip of 2000 miles.

Various types of regen happened regularly and without any problems

First full day in my new Superb, and not regretting my purchase at all.

I've put another 152 miles on my car and the overall average fuel consumption according to the car is 57.4mpg, (although the average speed cameras on the A1 might have helped with that!)

My MY18 2.0TDI 150 L&K DSG arrived yesterday.  Like @Fatso's it's got the Adblue filler cap.  Mine's also got the new 7-speed DSG.  Is yours manual or DSG?

Mine is manual
