Passenger's side airbag didn't deploy

Featured Replies

Long story short.

I was driving and some guy driving a van ignored a "STOP" sign and totaled my Octavia.

Now what baffled me right after the accident was that the front passenger's  Side Airbag hadn't deployed even though that was the area that was mainly hit.(I was alone in the vehicle)

Mine didn't deploy either(obviously) but that was logical since my side didn't get hit.

So my question is, was this supposed to happen? Is there some kind of sensor/mechanism that deploys the Side Air-bag upon detecting certain weight or should it have been deployed anyway?

It possibly didnt go off as there was nobody sitting in the passenger seat, maybe needs some weight on the seat & the seat belt connected for the airbags to go off.

Yours side didn't deploy as that side was unaffected - so correctly though for this occasion.

Passenger's side didn't deploy as the seat sensor wasn't getting signal as no weight on it - so I believe it was correct for not opening although that side affected by the crash..

As the others said - it worked correctly

I was in a serious RTA - lorry decimated passenger side - thank god no one was in that side - the lorry was resting on the passenger head rest - no deployment of airbags on that side - my side - they all went off and saved my life

Not a scratch! That is how good modern car construction and airbags are these days.

Eeeem..yes....but some still believe some decates older cars are stronger regarding their shell and frame/chassis...

I am not on that side to support but this is another point of view..

I am certain that in a 1970s car, the engine lump would have been in my lap. Some of the force in this accident was transferred to components that buckled at the back of the car - the boot hardly opened.

Modern technology has been dramatically and significantly proved to be safer in every point..

From the technology equipment even pathetic or active, from the electronic handling and assistance controls, from the way how chassis are made to absorb specially the crash force and not to engage (a such as possible at least..)  in the cabin, etc...etc..etc..

Thanks for the clarification.
