Skoda Superb Estate tyres excessive noise

Featured Replies

HI

My  2014 Skoda Superb Estate has  225x40r18 Avon tyres on ,new ones the front

I found i am  getting  lot of excess tyre noise with these and about 70 i get an effect as thou the car going through a tunnel from the back end

i have just returned from towing a caravan about 1600 miles through germany with no problems apart from one flat tyre

i am not a lover of low profile tyres and i was wondering if i could change the wheel and tyres for perhaps 17 inch ones or 16 inch ones

does anyone know what can be fitted please

You'll find alternative sizes on the sticker inside the fuel flap.

Or search forum.

My 11 estate is on 16s and my saloon on 18s, TBH I think the tyres are almost as noisy as each other. The only time I noticed a big drop in noise was when I went for tyres that had the lowest Db rating available (that was on the 16s)

Extra carpet helps quite a bit

I'd check the inner edge , they'll almost certainly be knackered

Yep - actually that has happned to me twice - if it has happened get the tracking checked

I'd be checking the rears for tyre sawing

had it while back and sounded awful

Also check you've not got a wheel bearing on the way out. Mine sounded like tyres in a bad state but was in fact a wheel bearing!

Now that's a flat spot!

At least you it now and not when the boys in blue are behind you.

Its caught me before

Was your sound like a low level regular thud at low speeds (20/30mph) on the rear (as if the start of a wheel bearing going)?

Had a garage check and they said all was well with the bearings and could not find anything. Very irritating.

Any ideas?

there'll be nothing wrong with the tracking either( within limits) , there's something peculiar about the geometry
