Si's golf tdi E-state

Featured Replies

Bought this mega cheap off a lass down at the stables.

1 for tinkering with and

2 to keep the miles down on the x5.

Pd100 tdi

2 owners

Great history (before she had it off her dad.)

Winter pack so:

elec sunroof,

full leather (heated fronts),

aircon,

cruise control etc

It came with its issues and could still do with a screen but it's now mot ready.

Issues..

Missing headlight washer cover

Aerial and base no good

Damaged side repeater

Brake lights stuck on

Front carpets wet

Screen cracked

Generally in need of a good clean.

Brake lights I instantly thought of the brake light switch as there a known problem and the coil light was flashing which forums state relates to the switch. Took it off cleaned it up and all good, so I thought. When the lights are off brake lights worked fine, lights on and the brake lights stayed on constantly. After some head scratching a fading with wiring I happened to check the bulbs and someone's fitted a single pin and it should be double!...sorted :)

Wet carpets....

Checked and sealed round the pollen filter, engine loom cover and bonnet cable grommet under the scuttle, still getting wet.

Sunroof drain tubes were next on the list and my good I've never seen so much gunk :(

Drivers side not even connected and was solid with dry muck.

Passenger side was full of slimy gunk, all cleaned and good to go.

All faults cleared and not returned.

While I was at it I debadged and painted the front and rear vw badges and gave it a good clean. Paintworks not great but I'll use it to practise machine polishing.

Nice buy mate. These PD100's are a lot pokier than you think aren't they. Nice progress so far. Looking forward to see where you go with this.

Sometimes wish I had bought a wagon. If you can find out the ECU number I might have a Blacksmoke remap file I can send you for free if you want mate.

Not something I'd considered but it's perfect for chucking the bike in and all the horse feed etc.

It'll do as a runabout and I've told myself I'm not doing much to it other than some heko deflectors and a decent dab/Bluetooth single din stereo lol.

I'll have a look for the code over the weekend as a map is being considered cheers

I think the not doing much to it will change when you find the odd cheap parts knocking about haha.

Not a problem mate, I bought the file a few years ago used it for 6 months and it was spot on made the car perform a lot different. Then I decided I wanted more power haha. If it had the same ECU number il happily email you the remap file for nothing. It's just sat on my computer.

Forgot to mention I have quite a lot of spare parts for the PD100 and MK4 Golf so if you come across anything it needs I might have it in the shed.

I'm finding little bits that still need doing as I work through it tbh, passenger door doesn't unlock with the rest on central locking, rear wash doesn't work (I may just delete the wiper :D).

Headlight washer cover missing and just little bits now.

They all have there minor problems haha. Passenger door will most likely be dodgy door module, they eBay specials are actually good quality replacements.

My rear wiper died along time ago, I've got another boot lid to fit with the Kill All Wipers delete kit. Defiantly a cheaper and faster fix than messing about trying to get it all to work again haha.

I would also suggest getting a EGR delete kit and giving the inlet manifold a good clean. Will make it perform loads better and should return better MPG

I have spoke to luke at tune automotive about one of there blanks so that's on the cards.

May I ask how much this was? And what sort of mileage has it done?

Looks pretty nice though really, for a cheap runaround.

£150 and 144k

Lots of service history from new and original bill of sale.

Does need a screen but that's only a £60 excess through the ins.

It's been used as a workhorse so is rough around the edges and the paints not great but for what I want it for its perfect.

I think so.

I'm hoping by the time all the little bits and the screen are sorted it'll owe me about £250 :)

If you're going to get a good amount of use out of it, then that really is cheap! Do all the interior gadgets still work? Like the heated seats

Another issue popped up after I'd fixed the rear wash pipe.

Dash would illuminate to tell me the tailgate was open and the alarm would go off all the while.

Turns out the pipe had been leaking all over a wiring plug and over time the wires and pins in the plug have corroded and snapped. Seen as it's only a cheap runabout I cut the plugs and soldered the wires :)

Also passed it's mot!

Wants some tyres and front brakes but I'm happy at that, time to find some cheap alloys.

Another issue sorted. Since I've had it mot'd and been using it In the dark I found the heater controls never lit up and it annoyed the hellout of me. Turns out it was only a single bulb :D

Full FIS clocks that's a nice extra to have. I had the exact same issue with my temp gauge and did the same as you're planning, new genuine thermostat and genuine coolant temp sensor also gave the coolant a good flush through and filled with new stuff. It says you have to remove the alternator to get at the thermostat in these but you can just manage to get to the thermostat housing bolts without removing the alternator.

Get yourself into UKMKIVS loads of information on their.

I've looked at a few YouTube vids and it doesn't look to bad tbh, it's booked in next sat for a new screen so that's another tick off the list.

Mates giving me some vrs 312 calipers and carriers just need to order discs and pads and then it's about there.

I'm on ukmkivs but don't tend to use it much, the mk4 golf forum fb page is ok for little bits but I just tend to use Google or YouTube if I need to.
