What mileage should my 1.4 petrol last until?

Featured Replies

Bit of a rubbish title, my 04 1.4 petrol has 133k miles on the clock.

i know it's a "how long is a piece of string" question, but what sort of mileage am I realistically going to be able to get out of it before it dies.

Gettinh worried it's going to be soon and I haven't got the finances to get another car

Remind me, is yours 8-valve or 16?

I think it's a 16v but I'm not entirely sure off the top of my head

If it's a 16V then you can expect valve guide wear to gradually increase oil consumption but there's no reason to worry, the engine is robust unless the cambelt snaps, if that happens it's all over.

Not really sure it matters anyway.  Make sure the oil and filter get changed at least every 10-12k miles, or once a year, whichever comes sooner. Make sure the coolant isn't older than about 5 years. Fix anything that goes wrong as soon as you get a warning light or other clue like a new noise, and you should see 200k+.

It's always serviced when required, and I do try to f I'd things myself where I can, or get it done at my local garage.

Hopefully I will be safe for another couple of years

My 1.4L 16V petrol BBZ is 10 years and 7 months new :-) 240k km on clock- works fine.

Fuel consumption still is ~same, performance- too.

Oil consumption between oil change (15k km = 9 months) is 1/3...1/2 from dipstick's MIN...MAX markings.

...with mid-SAPS synthetic oil SAE 5W40 from beginning, RON 98 fuel and aftermarket service materials from reliable brands.
