Looking for advice - Buying a 2013 Fabia Reaction

Featured Replies

Hi.

I'm new here so please take it easy on me.

I have ran Mk2 and Mk4 Golfs for around 15 years so i am familiar with the usual VAG problems

I am currently looking at a 2013 Skoda 1.2 Reaction.

The car has FSSH and 24k miles.

Whats the common issues to look out for on the 1.2 ?

Are these age of Fabias chain driven ?

How often do chain tensioners need replaced as Skodas mileage interval seems a bit optimistic.

Does the water pump run off this chain ?
Does anyone know if these pumps suffer from the impeller issues found on many other Volkswagen group vehicles ?

Does anyone know the mileage interval for aux belt replacement ?

Does this model have electric or hydraulic power steering running off Aux belt too ?

How are these pumps for longevity/leaks/failed bearings ?

Does the Mk2 Fabia suffer from electrical gremlins ?

Any other tips welcome.

Anyone?

I think these have the 1.2 70bhp htp engine, so yes chain driven as per

Service handbook doesn't mention chain at all (ie shouldn't need replacing during engine lifespan) - it does mention checking condition of the ribbed v-belt however.

Very good summary regarding what to look out for by xman in this thread:

Hope that helps somewhat!

Handbook may not mention anything about cam chain replacement.

Surely chain tensioner don't last forever ?

They do actually on most engines including the one you are looking at, and really they are not an issue..

Not so some early 1.2 TSI /TFSI or 1.4 TSI/TFSI or even 1.8 / 2.0 TSI's though. Right up to 2014 with some.

The Reaction should be a good reliable choice if it have the power that suits your needs.
