remapping or new engine?

Featured Replies

hi guys

i never got a book for this car but found out on internet that mine is only 1.2 60bhp.

the question is shall i just remap it or put another engine in it?

cheers guys

Can't imagine remapping the engine will be worth the bang vs buck. If considering replacing the engine, why not get something faster anyway?

If a new engine is the way you go, plenty of threads in the project section with 1.8 turbo engines.

thank you, i havent paid off this car so thought i would try do something to make it that bit more powerful.

I'm guessing the 60hp 1.2 is the old 3 cylinder mpi engine not the 1.2 TSI one. If so, there is little point as there's no turbo. Turbocharged engine gain the most power (especially Turbo diesels) as a remap increases the boost and fuelling. More air (boost) + more fuel = more power. You will only gain a few horsepower if you remap yours as they only slightly change the fuelling.

Ask local remappers if they can offer any increase on power from standard.

A 1.0 UpMiiCitogo with no turbo can be mapped from 60ps or 75ps and gain some more hp's/torque so maybe check out what yours can get.

(tuners show up to 79bhp.... well maybe so)

Maybe better just going with what you have though and saving for the next car with some more go.

?

How did you end up with a 60ps car without knowing what you were buying?

Did you not test drive it, look at the V5 or ask which engine it had?

i guess you are right, probably better just leaving it as is.

my old car broke down and i just wrote it off.

my boss lent me his then he asked if i wanted to buy it in installments, i agreed as i like it .

the low bh doesnt really bother me as its good enough for what i need it for but just thought if i could make it bit more powerful then i would.

Ask around tuners then,

but who were you thinking was going to fit an engine for you, upgrade the brakes etc,

and did you check out who you were getting to insure you after the engine swap.

Not your car anyway is it until paid off in full.

i have a garage who does my work for me.

true, its not my car but my boss is going to transfer everything in my name as he trust me.

what you just said has really got me thinking though, having an engine swap would require stronger drive-train...hmmmm
