Service due, but which one

Featured Replies

I have a 4 year old 1.2 SE. It's due its annual service. It has only done 12500 miles. Should I have  a major service @£279 or go with the minor @£159?

Any thoughts?

I believe that servicing is based on date rather than mileage? Mine was regsitered at end of September last year and I purchased at end of February with 10 miles on clock. The car is now telling me it is due a service, so basing that on the date it was registered I would say that it is date rather than mileage. Car has just done over 8000 miles in 7 months but it would be due anyway based on a 10k servicing regime.

So based on that your car is due its 4th annual service. I would get a vehicle checked out once a year irrespective of mileage. Obviously if it was high mileage, it would be the perscribed milage intervals.

Has it had any majors yet? Usually alternates between minor/major so the 4th year 40k service is a major. I had mine done a month ago even though I'd only hit 26k but my car is close to 4 years old and this was the 4th service it had.

One thing... If you pay for a major, check on your invoice that they've done the stuff for a major and not just given you an expensive oil change. Thinking spark plugs, pollen + air filters etc.

Thanks for the responses.

I phoned my usual Skoda garage and they said it was due a major. So that is what I chose.

Looking at my service book, every service page has the same boxes to tick and all are ticked identically each year. So no way to check there.

On a side note, I had a temporary failure on the cooling system one trip in July. I asked about a diagnostic check and they offered me one at £85: I declined.
