Bought 2nd Hand car how to tax it?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have bought a 2nd hand car (approved used) from a Skoda dealership and I am collecting it on Saturday. I know there are new rules on road tax now. The guy at the dealer said that they will tax it for me, but I thought I had to do that after I bought the vehicle then and there (online on dealership computer, pay with my credit card via DVLA website directly to DVLA)?
Wouldn't he need my details on the forms? How would I know that he didn't later request a refund and then I was driving an untaxed vehicle, the car tax is only £20 as its pre-registered (March this year)? I can't tax it at the moment as I don't have the logbook or anything.

I'm a bit confused. Any help would be appreciated.

You can do it while you are there because you will have insurance cover for taking it away,

make it monthly payment or since only £20 you can pay in full,

or let them do it and you pay them, you will be the registered keeper when you leave and you will have the receipt you ask the person for that you paid the VED money to.

You will be giving the Dealership your details or you have since you are collecting a vehicle, so if you can not trust a Skoda Official Dealership who can you trust 'Ryanair'/ Monarch?

Their job is selling cars 7 days a week, if they do not know about how to tax them and hand them over i would not buy a car from them!

Hi there. I finally bought the car ☺ it's 1.2 tsi SEL 110bhp Fabia of course. Just had a look into the used vehicle order/invoice which I paid deposit which lists the following:

Vehicle price: £xx xx

Discount: £xx xx

Road Fund Licence 12 months: £20

So technically I payed this already and will this then be recorded with DVLA on Saturday via their website when I collect the car with their 5 day free insurance?

Sorry for all the questions I have never done this and especially with all the new VED rules and regulations.

Thank you very much for your assistance with this post and my previous one as well.
