Scrunch when cornering

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 1.2 monte black. When I do tight turns (parking mostly) there is some odd scrunching noises. Reverse is more obvious, but that might be more to do with the extreme lock and slow speeds.

I am purely guessing it is rubber gators or undertray/wheel arch plastics catching somewhere, but I can't see a thing .

Is this nomal or has anyone else had, and rectified it?

Best check if your car could be one that has a faulty track rod end problem.

If a Dealership employee says they have never heard of any issues just suggest they check out the TPI on the issue.

There are threads in this section / Fabia Mk2 if you do a search.

Actually its the inner ends inside the rack often referred to as steering rod ends by the dealers. Its a common fault recognised by Skoda as a production fault and very many (I suspect the majority of fabias produced within a certain time frame) have been replaced under warranty.

Symptom is a juddering noise/ sensation from the steering when turning from lock to lock at low speed or stationary which gets worse and worse over time.  The cause officially is due to wrong grease used in the sealed  ball joints that dry out. As they are obliged by Skoda to check the grease for discoloration (rust) before accepting the fault I would say there is more to this than they admit.

If still in warranty then see your dealer at once. Dealer quote £400 otherwise. Being a well known and accepted issue fight for generous goodwill if out of warranty. Its actually best to pay some contribution (5%) so you automatically get a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty on the repair. A no cost/warranty repair carries no warranty beyond the initial vehicle warranty period.

If they repair, check the dealer has not used cable ties to seal the rack boots, as this method allows water in and the problem reoccurs. Proper factory style squash clips and new boots are needed

Our 2013 fabia ended up having 4 sets fitted in a little over a year, involving Skoda Uk to get a warranty on the repair. After several months I am hearing the symptoms starting again!!
