Fabia Elegance Rear Parking Sensors

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I'm looking at purchasing a 2010 Elegance with factory rear parking sensors (they are flush mount, so I think factory). The seller says the sensors don't work - when it's in reverse, nothing, no beep, nothing on the stereo (Swing Radio), nadda, nowt!

Any idea what this issue can be and any rough cost? I don't want to buy the thing if it'll rape my wallet trying to fix it.

I'm viewing the car at the weekend so can have a poke around then. But for now, I've attached the picture of them (looks like the left sensor pokes out a tad?).

Any advice is most welcome.

To be honest if the seller is pricing this car at anywhere near book price I would get him/her to fix them before you buy it. It could be that a previous owner has disabled this function, or it could be that there is a fault. I like the sensors and the feedback on the swing screen but some don't I guess, and yes those are factory fitted.

Those are factory fitted so its either a cable issue inside the car or that the sensors themselves have been turned off in the software. Be wary of purchasing the car with this known issue and if you wish to purchase the car (elegance model is a very nice spec) then get the current owner to have the issue diagnosed / fixed beforehand as it could be an electrical fault costing a fair chunk to diagnose. (not always but sometimes, just be wary of electric faults on modern cars)

Thanks chaps.

I'm a bit handy with cars so I would attempt to fix it myself (I have access to VCDS too).

The seller doesn't seem keen to have them diagnosed or fixed and to be honest, I'd rather do it myself to ensure they've been done properly. I'll be negotiating accordingly. Was just hoping for some insight into potential costs.

If you've got VCDS I'd been scanning it regardless. I have done on the last 5 cars I've bought, even my current Superb II, which was from the main dealer. If they've got nothing to hide they won't have an issue.

The issue could simply be that the control module has been disconnected for some reason - it sits to the n/s (iirc) of the boot behind the carpet trim.

Perfect.

What do the parking sensors consist of? 4x Sensors, module and wiring from the sensors..? The what? How does it interact with the reverse and stereo?

Me and my dad retro-fitted genuine OPS to my mums Fabia, and as you say, there are the four sensors, the control box behind the trim in the boot, the buzzer in the passenger 'B' pillar, then 2 CAN wires that run along the dash and connect to the BCM module under the drivers side, (we followed the official VAG guide from ElsaWin. ;)

I guess the other issue could be if they've been coded-out or retro-fitted and not coded - I don't know if they would still work if not?:mmm:

Thanks for the info!

Turns out it was a coding issue. Seems odd that someone would code them out. But there we go. Nice and simple (and free) fix!

That's excellent news especially if it was a free fix!
