Thinking of getting an Octavia

The problem I'm facing is that decent spec petrol auto estates are very thin on the ground.

In fact if you look on the Skoda used car site the most northerly petrol auto estate car under £18k is in Northampton. Literally nothing in the UK higher up than Northampton and the few Elegance versions are in Cambridge and Epsom. I'm very reluctant to go travelling those sort of distances (from West Yorkshire) to look at a car that may have a "booming" issue.

Why not test drive an Octavia, of a different spec, nearer to you first?

Then if you are concerned about the booming you look elsewhere, but if the booming doesn't concern you then you know it's worth a longer drive to test the spec you really want.

The OP is looking for an estate. The booming is just a hatch issue I believe, so no need to try to worry him with that.

All cars / makes have some issues, and forums are notorious for airing them, but ŠKODA is not at or near the top of most customer satisfaction surveys for nothing.

I have a 2015 Elegance estate which USED TO HAVE road induced booming but no longer has - how?

I replaced the original Pirelli Cinturato tyres (which needed replacing anyway) with Goodyear Asymmetric 3 tyres and the boom is gone - BTW I have the optional 17" wheels which means the tyres are lower profile which tends to exaggerate tyre induced problems such as ride, noise, etc.

This one has popped up on Autotrader. A very well equipped model and at a good price. needs some very minor paintwork around the rear bumper but nothing more than £150 at our local favourite body shop. Tempting...

Mirror indicator repeater glass is an under £30 part. Had mine replaced for £65 by Skoda (including labour) but you might be able to do that yourself.

Check the housing isn’t damaged too. That’s £200+ to replace and more if electrically folding.

Agree the bumper / wing damage looks as though it can be smart repaired.

Go for it!

I wonder if the fact that it's a one owner car for 2 years means that there has been no 'booming' problem with it?
