How toxic is your car?

Featured Replies

Interesting read - not surprised to find out that manufacturer published numbers don't meet real world but some of those are way off!!  They talked about new diesels in real world performance but would have been interested to read about new petrol vs real world - didn't really bottom out the buy new petrol or diesel for me...

Yes, I read that too.  Interesting read and I wasn't wholly surprised by the outcome.  Witch hunt on diesels and TBH I'm not sure how much of it is justified and how much is it just trying to point us in the direction of petrol cars that will put more money back into the treasury?

I'm sure petrol will have the same hurdles in a few years time when the government realise the incentives to buy hybrids, lower (various) taxes, etc are damaging their income.  Probably then a battery tax or a VED bands based on wheel size.  It's basically a cycle of "we've introduced incentives for people to drive more efficient cars, we can't tax them as much now; quick let's start a game of Chinese whispers, get the Daily Mail on the phone"

EDIT:  When I say 'tax' I also include Vehicle Excise Duty, taxes on fuel, etc, etc.

There is a thread already running in the General Car Chat section with the link to the article.

Just do not drive it, scrap it, 100% can be recycled now and turned into useful things like Nuclear power stations / Weapons.

Maybe into an Electric Vehicle, producing batteries and the means of charging them is totally non polluting, just like producing tyres and recycling them.
