Just wondering if anyone else has lumpy idle / mis-fire when engine is cold?

 

Our 1.2 tsi (the 105ps 8v chain driven unit) is lumpy at idle like it's misfiring.  It always has done this.  It's especially bad when cold.  As soon as you put any revs on or drive off, it's fine.

 

We took it to our local independent specialist a couple of weeks back (who are FANTASTIC - much better than the main dealers) because I thought it was getting worse, but they said it was all fine.  I trust their opinion.  Just wondering if anyone else has noticed the same with their 105?

 

We rented a 1.2tsi Polo in Spain last week also and it does exactly the same so I'm not really concerned.

Never in 3 1/2 years with mine. The idle speed was variable - dependent on conditions and AC settings but it was always smooth and ran on all 4.

 

Used to have a petrol Astra that was like yours on cold mornings - after 3 useless visits to the dealer for diagnostics, I changed the HT leads just like you would on an old pre-electronics car and hey presto one clean running motor.

Weird, like I said the Polo was just the same so it must be either a quirk or design flaw of the engine.  Maybe I'm just more sensitive to it?
