2.0 ltr 108hp

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Can somebody please give me some advise on the 2.0 ltr lower HP diesel Yeti variant.

I have been looking to change my current (3rd) Octavia 1.4tsi for something which would be better to tow a larger caravan than we currently have.

I have been looking for a newer 1.4 tsi (150hp) petrol Octavia, but they are few and far between so I may have to go back to the dark side, (diesel), and I have always fancied a Yeti anyway. I am just a bit surprised that there seem to be more of the 2.0 ltr 108 hp variants about than the higher hp models. I appreciate that these have less hp than my current car, but was wondering if anybody has any experience of towing with one and can offer some advice?

many thanks...

I have towed eriba pop-top caravans with my 110bhp 2.0L diesel yeti for three years. This year went down to between Toulouse and Narbonne in the south of France. It coped fine with the 1200m altitude with hair-pin bends in 2nd and 3yd gear. Fuel consumption dropped to 30mpg as opposed to the normal 34/36mpg. I have seen 40/42mpg in the UK. This year I have towed about 4,000 miles.

You have to remember though that my van is only 1200kg and has a lower aerodynamic profile. Others who tow "normal" vans will testify to the 14b0hp model being a better choice.

Whichever model you choose you will appreciate the ability to remove the rear seats for a van like capacity that is great if there is just the two of you. When away for 3 weeks plus I find I can fit a table top fridge next to a table top freezer in the boot, with awning and boxes occupying some of the space freed up by the removal of the back seat.

As an aside you mention the 1.4tsi 150bhp petrol engine in the Octavia. In theory this should tow better than the 110bhp diesel in the Yeti. It has the same 250Nm torque but across a wider rev range.

Hi and many thanks for the reply....would be great to get a 1.4 tsi Yeti..probably my ideal solution... just where to find one!!

I would have thought the torque graph comparison was more relevant when comparing any engine choice for towing.

The 110ps diesel fitted in with many company car limits for co2 emissions, so probably the reason so many are around, and a lot are the top trim level.

Hence i had one of these as my first Yeti and the Grenline fo my second - both company cars in elegance trim.

I thimk both would have towed ok within sensible weight limits for the trailer.

My third Yeti is mine and I have gone for a more powerful version
