Running in?

Featured Replies

Hello,

just taken delibery of a new Vrs Tdi. I was just wondering about any specific running in instructions. I have had engine rebuilds etc done on previous cars and then had to run them in over a set amount of miles... this being a fresh engine I thought I might have to do this but I can't find any info on this anywhere?

There is a section in the owners manual on Running / Driving in.

Then plenty on this forum if you do a search.

Tyres, Suspension, wiper blades, brakes etc all need the newness off them.

Check tyre pressures and reset the TPMS, check the oil and coolant level as delivered so you can compare in the first 1,000, 3,000 miles or so.

Drive as you wish and think is sensible, but the owners manual gives the Manufacturers advice.

Ok thanks for that, I did check will will have another look :)

Just drive it like you normally would....

Modern engines dont need running in...

As above, its worth while to keep an eye on the tyre pressures & fluid levels but otherwise nothing else special to do....

Dont do a search on the forum otherwise you will be inundated with rediculous advice from the 1960s like don't drive with cruise control, dont drive at constant speed, drive it like you stole it, blah blah blah....

Thanks for the above info, all it says in the manual is don't give it full revs for the first 1000km

I'm wondering this as well. Dealer said not needed, manual says it is needed!

^^^

Because Dealership salespeople just want Demonstrators to 3,000 miles in under 3 months and then able to be sold for max profit (Commission)

because they are salespeople.

Not that Demonstrators / hire cars / fleet cars are any worse as a used car at 3 year old than a one owner maybe Grannied from after delivery / PDI for 5,000 km and then not given an oil change for 10,000 or 18,5000 miles.
