Drive mode selector optional extra

Featured Replies

Morning,

just putting an order together for my 1.4 TSI Se and came across the drive mode selector i was wondering is this something i should be adding?? what are your opinions?

Cheers Dave

All it does is slightly adjust some of the settings depending on how you want it to.

It adapts the steering, throttle mapping, DSG changes (if an automatic), DCC setting (if iftted) and one or two other things I believe.

I've never had a car with it, until I pick up my superb that has it, but as it's only £100 it's not much over the cost of a car.

I think the question is if you had had it before and it was not there on your next car, would you miss it?  I suspect not, as you would more than likely set it up once and then leave it,but I am sure others with more experience of using it will post what they think,

It's a setting that you will play about with initially, then you'll put it in Sport and it will remain in Sport until you get rid of the car.  OK, not necessarily Sport but you get the idea; you'll find the setting you like most then leave it in that setting all the time.  I wouldn't pay extra for it, spend the money on a space saver spare or Haribo.

Without DCC I'd say it's a bit pointless. As others have said, I cycled through the settings over the first week of having the car before putting it back to Normal and leaving it there ever since.

I certainly wouldn't pay for it. Spend the money on additional parking sensors or something equally useful....

Well,i have it on my sportline, and it works for me,but mostly because i have a progressive steering (which i would fully recommend you add to your car,it makes a huge difference and is only about 100 euro). When you have mode selection, you get a button next to shifter, and there are 4 modes (eco, normal, sport, individual). In normal (which i usually use around town) car is a bit sluggish (190 dsg 4x4) as it keeps prety high gears,so engine is on very low rpm. The steering is light, throttle is numb. In sport steering is heavier, faster(requires less turning),dsg keeps rpms in right area (always ready to go) and throttle is mapped differently. Imdividual is nice because you can program everything to your preference, for exhample keep drivetrain in norma(around town,to save fuel) but put steering to sport if you like heavier wheel etc.

So mode select is nice, but far from some must have item (like progressive steering,at least for me) and without dsg and progressive steering it is s bit pointless.

So true.

It's like the electric seats; once you have found what works for you, than you'll make no further adjustment. Where the facilities come into their own is if there are two regular drivers where the settings can be saved to the individual drivers' keys.   This was the situation with my mkII. However my good lady dislikes my mkIII for the same reasons that I like it.....auto gearbox and parking brake.

True, until they move the Steering Wheel.....

At least if you get the seat back to where you want it the steering wheel can be quickly adjusted.
