Citigo Trip computer problem

Featured Replies

Having only had my Citigo for a few weeks and not being a high mileage motorist I’ve not filled the tank that many times, when I do fill up I always zero the trip recorder within the speedo and zero trip 2 on the computer to keep an ongoing check of fuel consumption until I next fill up. Unfortunately I have yet to reach the next fill up before the trip 2 inexplicably zeros itself and loses the accumulated information which is very irritating as I’ve wanted to do a brim to brim check to work out just how accurate the trip computer is, so far I’ve not had the chance to do it because of this problem, is this common or am I just unlucky ? Also on the point of brimming the tank, it takes ages, taking 5-6 litres more fuel after the fuel gun initially cuts off until completely full takes 4-5 minutes longer and makes you very unpopular on the garage forecourt when there’s a queue behind you. Filled up today with the low fuel warning having just come on and it took 40.2 litres, so much for a 35 litre official tank capacity.

Not entirely sure what the behaviour of the trip is as don't have exactly the same model

The manual suggests that if you're resetting trip 2, it should last 20 driving hours before resetting, so unless you're spending a lot of time idling then there may well be a problem.

"Single-trip memory (memory 1) The single-trip memory collates the driving information from the moment the ignition is switched on until it is switched off. New data will also flow into the calculation of the current driving information if the trip is continued within 2 hours after switching off the ignition. If the trip is interrupted for more than 2 hours, the memory is automatically erased.

Total-trip memory (memory 2) The total distance driven memory gathers data from any number of individual journeys up to a total of 19 hours and 59 minutes driving or 1,999 kilometres driven. The memory is deleted when either of these limits is reached and the calculation starts all over again.

Unlike the single-trip memory, the total-trip memory is not deleted after a period of interruption of driving of 2 hours."

The fuel tank one is something that's been discussed before - officially the car has a 35 litre capacity in the UK, but in some overseas markets the Citigo/Mii/Up! comes with a 50 litre tank. It would appear that a few cars sold in the UK do have the larger tanks.

Once the light comes on, the PID still shows about 40 miles to empty. Once the PID shows empty then there's about 40 miles left. If you're getting over 40 litres in as soon as the light comes on, you may well have the larger tank

I hope you haven't overfilled the tank already. It will cause refueling problems if tank breather system is filled with petrol.

I've noticed that fueling nozzle works better if I pull it 1-3 cm back. If I push nozzle all the way in I sometimes have cutting problem.

From what you’ve said it looks as though my problem is I’m exceeding the 19hrs 59 minutes drive time long before I’m due to refill the tank. With the sort of driving I do my average speed is usually only about 20-22 mph so 20 hrs equates to 400-440 miles, when the fuel light came on yesterday the trip mileage was 478 miles, memory 2 having reset itself the day before.

Really makes me wonder why the trip computer has been set up with a time/distance limit on the Citigo when there were no such limits on either of my previous Skoda’s, the Rapid 1.2tsi Sport and Fabia VRS 1.9tdi.

Although not strictly a trip computer related issue I thought I’d put this query on here rather than starting a new thread as it does relate to the PID.

My Citigo came fitted with the optional rear parking sensors, with the PID in operation and the display showing Car Info, which I normally have showing RPM and coolant temperature, when reverse gear is selected the display automatically changed to a graphical display showing the distance from anything behind that you’re reversing towards, this in conjunction with the increasing rapidity of audible bleeps as you get closer. For some reason over the last couple of weeks the reversing display on the PID has ceased to function, has anyone got any idea why it has ceased functioning and can give any info on how I can get it working again ?

Try resetting the PID or see if there’s any updates required?

I don’t think I can get updates as I’m not the first owner of the car, can you advise how I do a reset ?

You’ll need to download the Garmin Fresh app on your computer.

Failing that I think there is a way to reset it via the PID it’s self. I did do a reset with mine before I Traded it in and I think I ended up doing it via the PID.

Most likely went into all the options to find it :D

Reset by pressing down on the screen whilst turning on.

Not bad for a self proclaimed 'Senile Old Git'.

There's life in the old dog yet :)
