Help!!!

Featured Replies

Hi guys

So I tinckerred with my ignition switch. It needed replacing but the part sent to me was not the same. So I put stuff back together turned the car on and off all worked well. 2 hours later I go to get in it..... nothing. The doors won't open with the fob or key and the alarm goes off. I tried both keys they both have battery as I can see the light blinking.

I genuinely don't know what to do. Please help!

Disconnect the battery?

The RAC got me into my car when I locked my keys in the boot 100 miles from home.  I do not want to say how for obvious reasons. The only evidence they had done this was 2 small marks in the paint inside the top of door frame. Maybe your breakdown coverage would help get you back in.

i will have to ring them tomorrow and see how much they will charge me.

Are you saying that you can't manually unlock the drivers door by inserting the key in the lock and turning it?

Try inserting the key and turn it to the clockwise position and hold. Normally the electric windows will wind down.

nope. When i put the key in and turn to open the car alarm goes off and it still stays locked. I have new batteries in both keys and it still doesn't work.

I take it the owners manual is in the car.

Someone with one to hand or google a manual and it tells how to sync the keys.

I had to once when i had sat at KFC and the keys in my pocket must have reset as switching on and off.

I luckily got the windows to drop, then got the hand book from the glove compartment and then as the alarm kept going and stopping as

i pressed and held the buttons trying to follow the Owners Hand Book instructions it somehow worked by luck.

I really never quite understood the instructions, and never looked at them again, but the keys did sync.

i think i need to be in the car for that no?

i tried to change the bloody ignition switch and i only realised it was the wrong part when i pulled the old one out (i didn't help it opened up in to pieces). I don't understand how come it looked when i pressed the button.

'How come it locked'.

Mind of their own, immobilisers, and dead locks and all such crap. Good for stopping casual car thieves, or casuals that steal cars.

All electrickery to me which is why i have a friendly Auto Electrician on my Christmas Card list.

Hopefully 'hutchysrs50'  will be along that knows about such things and working on them.

*locked. I don't know, I even turned the car on to see if it was all alright, ordered the correct part on my phone, got out closed the door, pressed the lock button on my fob, it locked then 2 hours later (9pm) it wouldn't open with the fob. Put the key in turned the alarm goes off (all neighbours out the window) but the car still staid locked. Went back in the house took the spare key...nothing same issue. Replaced batteries on both....nothing. I'm thinking to force down the rear window as it's a manual one. Then open the bonnet and disconnect the battery or reprogram them if i can. a quid job turned in to a nightmare.

is it possible that i messed up with the receiver in the ignition switch?
