Fabia 1.9 TDI Heater blower & windows not working

Featured Replies

I am having issues with my 57 plate Fabia.

Heater blower does not work.

Electric windows do not work.

i have been told this may be a relay issue? i have located some relays above the fuse box (under the steering wheel) but i am unable to find any reference to them ?

Has anyone had similar issues?

Thanks.

Did both these faults occur at the same time ?

I am unsure to be honest Aubrey as my mrs was driving and she is unsure if she had the heater fan on or not!

when the ignition is turned on the screen on the heater control flashes for around 10 seconds then returns to normal everything seems to work on the control screen just no fan in any of the speeds?

Have you got climate control ? Often the fan only working at top speed is the resistor block, but you write about a screen. I've not worked on climate control but from what I know the motor and electronic control box can fail and require replacement.

Electric windows can be caused by broken wires in the door gaiter, have a look in your drivers door rubber gaiter. You push down a bit in the middle top of the gaiter, slipping something thin between the rubber gaiter and the car body A Pillar and push down a bit as you pull the top away from the car and the gaiter will come away from the A Pillar at the top. Once off the top just lift off the bottom and push back towards the car door and look for broken wires. Drivers door brakes the most as used most often but not a bad idea to check other doors gaiters too.

This might be relevant to the cabin fan problem:

How many relays do you have, and what positions are they in Top row L-R = relays 1-5, second row 6-10, third row 11-15 (6 and 10 may be split for two slimmer ones in each location).

It probably depends on options, but you should certainly have relays in positions 4, 13 & 14.

I will have to check for sure but I believe

top line left 2 grey thin, far right 1 standard grey.

middle 1 standard 1 thin to the right of it.

bottom left 2 standard grey.

if you can make sense of that your a top man haha.

Ok guys thanks for all the info.

Ive done a little digging about today and found that the previous owner has repaired the door harness all the wiring continuity checks out ok.

My door motor has mounted to the motor a circuit board into which 2 plugs fit. removing this board reveals the motor terminals i have tested the motor with the power probe and it works in both directions like a dream. (no way to test the board?)

I have discounted the door switches by testing with a known good switch.

Still no windows.

On a second note i have a fault code on my Climatronic display which refers to the fan motor being US!!!

i managed to remove the power plug from the motor and i am getting 12 volts down one wire all the time in all states of the motor reference on the climatronic.?

Is this normal?

Has anyone removed the dash to replace the fan?

Any info gratefully received.

I had a fen replaced at the hight of the hot weather(?). Set me back nearly £500 with the fan and the labour as its a dash out job. That was at a VAG specialist, not a main dealer who quoted me way over £300 for the fan alone as they are the digital ones with built in resistor, etc not the four speed ones!

Update on the fan issue !!

after much scratching of my head I decided that I would test everything to do with the fan and I mean everything!

After doing this I concluded that the fan it’s self was at fault.

so I removed the dash

took the fan from the housing,  Tested with  power probe and ................ nothing !

So on closer inspection I found the fault.

One of the small springs that hold the brushes to the motor was missing ! after a rummage in my box of tricks  a suitable spring was found and fitted!

Power probe on the motor and result ! One fully working motor for the grand total of 5p

fan back in climatronic control plugged in error codes cleared self test done. Fully working climatronic system.

Still having trouble with my electric windows !
