any ideas whats going on with my traction control?

Featured Replies

when i accelarate from a standin start in my furby vrs, hard with the traction control on.( no light on dash) the wheels dont spin and the performance is smooth. if i turn traction control off, in same conditions and accelarate hard from a standin start, the car bangs? as i accelarate all i get at first is a bang bang bang, (lol) in first. i always thought this only happened when traction control was on and the bangin was it workin? whats going on??

The banging is the TC at work.

banging is when TC is off though. All I get is mega amounts of wheelspin, right through 1st and 2nd....

I did get "banging" at Santa Pod before my CV gave way, due to mega amounts of grip. I don't want to worry you that the banging you're getting is also a CV going - just thats the last time I remember it doing that.

With TC off, all that should happen (on smooth road) is wheelspin.

IIRC, you can't switch the traction control completely off (even if you push the button)......

On the octavia, the banging is partly due to the way the top of the struts "float" on their seats.

yeah, the banging is your wheels bouncing off the road, and suspension complains as goochie says above, all cars I've had wheelspin can make that noise, including my vRS......

lol... yeah, it sounds bad! just dont do it! leave the TC on unless you are after a trafficlight drag, where the "granny-start" is the best method, just enough power to very slightly squeak the tryres....... no so much you wheelspin, not so little you get that bad banging..... but yes, dry roads are more likley to make it bang than simply spin........

when the TC operates its silent, just cuts the torque from the engine until the wheels grip again, (If you have ESP this is different, it will actually brake the front wheels...)
