Replacing the key fob battery advice please

Featured Replies

Had the dreaded warning come up on the system yesterday to replace the key fob battery after 18 months of use.

Wondered if anyone has replaced theirs successfully and did you have to re-sync before it would work again?

@RickW... Hi  - yep - it's a piece of cake ... my car has full Kessy, so replacing it about every 6 months or so ... no re-syncing needed. Just change and go!

Also .. the standard battery is the CR2026, so, it's oft recommended on here to use the slightly higher capacity CR2032 - it's a little deeper (thicker!) than the 2026  - but the lid of the fob will squeeze shut - just growl at it, and it'll snap in!

Anyway - I use that 2032 type.  They're easier to get too. I buy couple of cards (6 per card) everytime Lidl have them in, and leave a pack in the glovebox.

Excellent, thanks for the advice, off to Lidl tomorrow!

A CR2026 battery is 20mm in diameter and 0.26cm thick.

A CR2032 battery is 20mm  in diameter and 0.32cm thick.

So a CR2032 is 0.04cm thicker than a CR2026 battery.

The number of the battery relates to the size.

Hope this helps.

Thanks AG Falco.

There are some good vids on YouTube about changing batteries and if its the first time you open the case it's quite stiff I found the easiest way is to open the key and put the spare key in the slot at right angles to gently prise it open Joe

My original batteries are CR 2025.

Done it!!

2 x 6 packs of CR2032's on offer at Lidl for £3 ,so 25p each battery.

Easy replacement, didn't have to growl at fitting and car didn't need re sync.

Ready for wifes Citigo and parents Yeti now when theirs need replacement.

Thanks for help.

(I wonder how much my Skoda main dealer would have charged if I'd gone there to have it done?)

  • 1 month later...

I have a March 2016 1.2 110 SEL with KESSY GO and just had the warning to replace the key fob batteries. Having replaced both batteries I took the keys back to the car to check that they worked but both sets failed to be recognized by the ignition.

After much battery swapping and head scratching, I found out that the key fobs had to be re-acquainted with the car via the remote locking system before the ignition system would recognize them. A quick lock/unlock with each fob and everything was working normally again.

Just thought that I'd let people know so that anyone else with KESSY GO doesn't spend time wondering what they've done wrong when the time to change their batteries rolls around.

Hi, I have a Sept 2015 1.4 Tdi Se-L which started to eat batteries in the fob at about 18 months old.

Raised it with the dealer who identified a fault and replaced both keys/ fobs under warranty. Been fine since.

I'll bear this in mind if these new batteries don't last very long.

Just had my fob battery replaced...annual event, pretty much. Popped into local Skoda dealer here in Lincoln....£2.45 fitted and a nice free coffee whilst passing the 10 minutes. Works for me. CR 2025 is what they fit.
