Micro switch 'n' interior lights???

Featured Replies

Right then. Saturday I finally got round to installing a brand new nsf door latch in to my fabia. It has remote central  locking by the way. Anyhow all went ok and while I was there I changed the door speaker. Everything works on that side ok. I changed the drivers side speaker as well with no problems but on putting it all back together I've noticed that,

When you lock the car the LED alarm indicator doesn't come on.

When you unlock from outside with the remote the interior light comes on but when you open the door the puddle light doesn't

When you take the ignition key out of the ignition the interior light comes on but if you wait for it to go off and then open the door it doesn't come back on.

If you open the passenger door all is ok, puddle light comes  on and interior light comes on.

If you push the open door switch by the window switch, whether the drivers door is open or closed the puddle lights come on, on both sides and stay on untill you lock the car.

Could this be a problem with the drivers door latch micro switches?

Does the lights-on warning bleep sound if you open the drivers door with lights on?

Does the car relock itself with drivers door open about 20-30 seconds after unlocking with remote?

Yes to both.

So warning bleep works with lights on and drivers door open (without key in ignition)?

Sorry, if I  have the lights on and open the door the warning beep sounds  when you take the key out of the ignition and the interior light comes on. And it re locks it self after 30 seconds or so. Everything works as it should  except the alarm LED illuminating  when locking and the puddle  light when you open the door.

It's a mystery.  I may go and just disconnect the puddle lights on both sides and grey out the indicator or get hold of one of the proper skoda blanks. Might be cheaper than sourcing a new used latch just for a micro switch.

Did you remember to plug the door LED back in? It has its own little plug. The LED doesn't work off the door microswitch (at least not the external one that controls the interior light/light's-on bleep, etc.

Don't understand why you'd need a new microswitch if you've fitted a brand new lock unit as the microswitch comes with it. Also, if the lights-on bleeper works then the microswitch must be working.

Did you get exactly the same part number lock unit? Was it a cheap one?

The brand new latch went into the passenger door with a new speaker. That side (passenger) seems fine.  Its the drivers side that's playing / acting up. I've got a new LED indicator coming tomorrow and I'll  fit it,  it may be  because that's broken the rest works out of sink. Either that or the micro switch in the drivers door latch  is kaput.

Ah, sorry, that's me getting doors mixed up.

There are four microswitches inside the lock unit aside from the one on the exterior of it.

Also, there can be dodgy solder joints or wiring failure caused by the shock of opening/closing the door over the years . However, the fact that the LED only stopped working after you fitted a new speaker points to something that happened whilst doing the job.

I'll try the indicator and if that fails I'll put a new or good used latch on my shopping list for next pay day.

Cheers for the info by the way.

No probs.

Well before bed last night I tried an old but tested hack. I sprayed a combination of WD40 and circuit board cleaner through the the holes on the side of the door used for taking the lock out.

So this morning I'm taking the wife to the GP as she's a little unwell and I was moaning about the problem with the puddle lights, they still didn't work and apart from WD40 running out of the door nothing was different same problems as the previous day.

So to console my self I picked up some rear brake drums and fitted these so as to finish off my rear brake service.  Well what ya know I unlocked the car and hey presto all is working again, puddle lights etc apart from then alarm indicator which is on back order.

Go figure, what seems to have fixed this one????  Home remedies the force, Vulcan mind meld or the power of thought.

So after a few days of  work and then not working I now have them working again. I've got my Skoda alarm on indicator (£7.19 Inc vat)  and new latch. So it's Saturday door apart (again) fingers crossed it's just a bit of damaged wiring but if it's the latch then I know what to do there as well. Got my door card clips at the ready too.

I've few treated myself to one of those AUX plug in sockets that were discussed on the site. Got the price down to £29 Inc delivery. So may just spend time messing with the car.
