Daniel Hegarty dead: British motorcyclist killed, aged 31, after tragic accident at Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix

The Topgun Racing Honda rider crashed during the race and has tragically died, aged 31.

Hegarty, a regular at the Isle of Man TT, was taking part in his second race in Macau.Last year, he spoke of the concerns of his family about his safety - particularly his eldest son.   "I find it hard with the children because my oldest son is nine years old now and he understands things and he can go on YouTube himself and get facts and statistics, like how many riders have died in the years," he said in 2016.  "It really scared him for a long time, so I found myself explaining it to him. But then I took him with me at the TT and he loved it as much as I me. He got through the stage where he was scared and asked a lot of questions and I didn’t understand why he did it.    "My parents are really scared (laughs). I wouldn’t like to be them, because it’s hard for me going riding. I just switch off and focus on what I’m doing ad forget how many people are at home worrying. I just told them I’m as focus as I can to minimize the risk."  Macau has been hosting the street race for cars and motorbikes since 1954. Hegarty was the first rider to die at the event since Portugal's Luis Carreira was killed in qualifying for the 2012 race.

Hard for many to understand why motorcycles do it, many motorcyclist understand and non-motorcyclist do not.  Hope his family does and they can reconcile.

I do understand and when Barry passed I was shocked and still think we lost one of the good guys that added lots of positives to life.

If you mean Barry Sheene then he was a hero of mine too.  Cancer got him in the end but to come back after having huge rods of metal put in him was amazingly brave.

Dani high-sided it at Fishermans in the the barrier/fencing.  Brave man.  I hope they are doing a colelction at the Bike Show or some other way.

Always sad when this happens in any sport, if there is any comfort to be had he was doing something that he loved, thoughts go out to his family and friends RIP.

Daniel was one of my cousins best friends :crying: I feel for his wife and kids. RIP pal.
