Couple of issues with newly purchased Octavia, has anyone else encountered similar? Thanks in advance!!

Featured Replies

I have just purchased a 2014 Octavia 1.6 TDI Blackline from a main dealer, a car I fell in love with and what with it having 1 private owner, a Skoda service history and just 25k it was a no-brainier for me

However I have found a couple of faults, it's a touch annoying as obviously if was approved used and meant to have had a very thorough inspection,

The first fault is with the climatronic, the flap motor or actuator clicks on start up, when you adjust the temperature and sometimes randomly during driving, I had this on a Mk2 so I'm fairly confident on what the fault is. The second fault on the climatronic is strange. If you start the car up and it is set to say 25-degrees you get lovely warm air, if you then increase the temperature to say 28+ and then reduce it back to 27 an below the vents blow only very tepid air, with the drivers centre vent slightly cooler still than the outer drivers side vent. Ive had a play with it and this is a consistent problem, once you adjust the temperature backwards you get no heat, even at 27/26/25 etc.

The second problem, and the one that is a real concern is a potential clutch problem. When pulling away, and it's even worse on a hill start, I get a high pitched screechy/grindy noise that comes from the front left of the car looking as if you are sitting in it. I did wonder if this is the bill assist kicking in and making this noise, but it seems it like the brakes are partially locked on, or as I think the clutch/flywheel are making some sort of slipping noise?

sadly within a week of ownership the car is going back to Skoda under warranty, the salesperson who sold us the car was genuinely surprised it has faults, but I just wanted to communicate with fellow Mk3 owners to see if they had encoutered similar models

any comments and responses are hugely appreciated!!

Many Thanks

Jon

No.  But I have a 1.4l TSI. Why do you suddenly expect 28C?  Maybe the engine needs to warm up first.  Good luck explaining your needs to the dealer.

I have a 1.6TDi SE and I haven't even got my temperature to 28c! 24 was warm enough. The engine does take a while to warm up being a diesel. I would have found 28c sweltering. The pulling away noise on the hill could be the hill assist releasing as mine squeaks sometimes. Otherwise it could be the dual mass flywheel giving up the ghost which I hope it isn't for your sake.

Ref the heater. I should have mentioned that it is the same even after a long run. Definately something wrong with the flap motor/actuator though as the clicking is constant.

Regarding the clutch noise, I’m thinking release bearing. It’s actually got worse over the last day or so, and now when driving there is a metallic droning that stops the moment you depress the clutch pedal.

Many Thanks for the replies, it is appreciated.

Im not too worried if it is the DMF or Clutch as it is a fault that was present at point of sale and therefore the main dealer is obliged to repair it even if it is outside of the warranty booklet limitations.

With regards the climatronic, i don't think there is a fault there, I have a MK2 but mine is set to 24 if turn it up to high then i get very hot air, turn it back to 24 the air goes tepid to cool the cliaite down, as it should then the air will chop and change to maintain that tempreture; it controls the air in the cabin, not the vents.

Every climate control system i've had has done this.

Incidently the air from the centre vents should be cooler then the air from the side vents, it shows an airflow diagram in the cars owner's handbook.

Skoda 'Approved Used Cars' do not mean they have a 'Very thorough inspection'    They supposedly have a Workshop Safety Inspection.

Not always even serviced if a service is not due.

So use the Warranty to get a vehicle fit for purpose.

Rejection right now is possible as it is not fit for purpose and possibly not properly inspected on hand back or purchase by the dealership.

Get the Full Service History on the Vehicle, any Warranty History, and any Service Campaign work done.

& get your concerns in writing to the Dealer Principal and inform Skoda UK as well. In Writing.

I really do hope it doesn’t come down to rejection, as we love the car!

Shame to have 2 issues on a rigorously inspected vehicle, the ball is in their court now

Thanks for the replies

Update, car is going in to Skoda for diagnosis tomorrow, they have said it sounds like the gearbox will have to come out.

Will definately be having stern words at Skoda, it’s also apparent that the inflation kit is missing.

for an approved used car that has been vigorously inspected I’m pretty gutted to have 2 faults at point of sale and bits missing, im

beginning to wonder if they bothered carrying out an inspection at all

So. The car went into Skoda this morning, and they have ordered a new heater flap assembly and a new clutch release bearing and clutch kit.

They seem fairly confident this will resolve the issues so fingers crossed!!
