New buyer, anything to be aware of?

Featured Replies

I'm looking at buying a Fabia as a second car, it's a 1.4 16v model on 74k miles, should there be anything I should be aware of or expecting? I've done a search on here and seen the EGR valve can become clogged, but is there anything more sinister I should be wary of? It looks like a suitably tidy model and 1 owner since new, any input would be a massive help :)

Rear door seals leak - easy fix

Front window regulators fail and are a bit of a pain to sort but not mega expensive

I think the 1.4s have issues with the piston rings/cylinders but i'm sure some more clued up members will give you a better answer on that one.

OEM Console bushes are made of cheese unless you upgrade them to poly bushes or seat cupra ones.

PAS can cause issues which are often linked to bad battery earths/connections

Alternator sensing wire can also break although not sure to the extent on the petrol engines.

All minor issues really so yes a 1 owner well looked after model should be a good choice!

Dave, just don't.

It's happening :D

16 valves...pah! You need the mighty 8 valve 1.4 fabia. ;)

Make sure it's not a bore-glazed oil burner, that's a silly low mileage for its age, on these engines low mileage can cause far more problems than a high mileage.
