Getting radio out!

Featured Replies

Yet another problem that needs fixing!

I need to to get the radio out of my car, bought some prongs from eBay. Granted they were only cheap ones.

ive put the prongs into the holes, and nothing really happens apart from the prongs just bend. :(

any suggestions

If you have the little oddments bin under the stereo you can remove and reach back and help pull it out while the prongs are pushed way in to release the catches.

Which should be removable.

Any tips on how to get the plastic tray out. Tried prising it out with a screwdriver didn’t work.

Really want to get the radio fixed as the speakers working intermittently is driving me mad.

plus rubbish photo to show how bent prongs are. Reckon I can get an eBay refund on these?

Same bending happened with mine, straighten prongs then instead of pushing from the end, grip close to where they push into radio with pliers pushing in a short bit at a time, re-grip again and repeat. This will release radio but then may need a screwdriver carefully under front edge to push radio out.

Don't think that tray is removable without the radio out first.

Just keep gently wiggling the levers until they seat properly. Try pushing radio in as you do it to take tension off the clips.

Are they the right bit of kit for removing the standard stereo? Look a little wrong to me. I've been wrong before though.

Check YouTube, there's plenty of info on there.

That’s what they were sold as and they fit into the holes in the stereo so should be right ones

Radios are tight especially if not previously removed.

My method....

1) Remove heater control cover (unclip from the bottom, then wiggle it off).

2) Remove vertical side trims (prise with large screwdriver from below).

3) Remove blanks from above radio (the ones alongside the ASR and rear screen demist).

4) Release radio clips using prongs (or old jig-saw blades etc).

5) Wiggle assertively becoming more aggitated whilst pulling on the oddments tray underneath. :)
