Passenger airbag light not on

Featured Replies

I noticed today that the airbag light was neither on or off as if the bulb had died. However, when I turn the ignition off and on it reappears.

It seems like sometimes it stays off and sometimes it stays on, I don't get a warning light or anything, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

It turns on when ignition is switched on and goes off after a minute or so on mine.

Hmm maybe I've just not noticed it before, but I don't see any benefits of it turning off, not like it takes much power or anything.

I think if you need to disable the airbag for passenger seat the car reminds you that it's on at the start of the journey and later it becomes just an extra light to distract you. On the other hand if the airbag is off the light stays permanently on.

It could be, it was originally switched off so I didn't notice until I turned it on I guess, thanks anyway.

It is case you have a child seat in the front, the airbag can crush an infant.

I was referring to the warning light not the airbag itself.

The airbag lights is most cars function in the same way as the “Check engine” light. They do a power on test and then only light up again in case of an error

Hmm, didn't know that, thanks, don't recall my fiesta ever doing that though.

The airbag light in the dash cluster works like that, but the passenger airbag on/off light next to the hazard lights button will turn on for longer (about a minute) with the 'on' bit illuminated and then turn off, or if the airbag is turned off, it is permanently illuminated with the 'off' segment.

The one in the dash cluster is a master warning light for the airbag system, just like the check engine light is.

Thank you, that really clears things up, it makes perfect sense now.
