Time for a new battery?

Featured Replies

ESP message gone. All working as normal.

Local motor factor offered a choice of three batteries , the most expensive which I went for was £68.   Halfords wanted £169 !! So I saved £101 by shopping around

Car won’t start after sitting for 8 days and weather slightly below freezing.

Noticed the battery is 68 ah while Skoda lists 72 in their eshop.

Car is imported from Germany. Is it a norm to use less powerful batteries in warmer climates? Not that I would consider Germany warm...

Despite my local MOT place saying there was nothing wrong with the battery at the weekend (I told them it won't start the engine after being left for a day or so) I'm looking at a replacement myself. I usually manage to start it with a booster pack but that did not work this morning; it just clicks away and tries to crank, but never fires. I think I know what to get for my 60 plate MK11 Superb Elegance 2.0 diesel estate and it's something like this unless anyone can suggest an alternative. It's currently got this:

hat I want to also confirm is, when I swap out the battery, will I need to recode the radio/columbus system and/or reset/reprogramme lights, seat memory, windows, mirrors? At a pinch I could run a set of jump leads whilst I do the swap but it's a faff.

Thanks All...

Sounds more like a starter motor sticking to me, as the garage confirmed no fault on the battery, and you tried booster pack too.

A new battery may sort the issue out short term but the starter motor may start sticking again.

I would suggest at least noting the position of the starter motor, and keeping a lump hammer and a piece of bar in your car.

If it starts clicking again on starting, give the starter motor a sharp thump, or consider getting it swapped before it does let you down.

I'm surprised the testing garage did not advise this.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for that. So far it's been spot on with the new battery.

The batteries last about 3 years with these Skodas
