Oil draining into Coolant

Recommended Posts

Hello,

What could be wrong and possible solutions with/to the oil either from the engine or somewhere else draining into the coolant and mixing with water in the coolant. Water is not draining or mixing with the engine oil inside the engine. It alerts me on my dashboard when the oil has mixed much with water in the coolant. Please suggest possible cause ans solutions.

Kind thanks.

They are prone to craking internally.  Oil pressure is higher than the water pressure which is why it finds its way into the coolant system.  Had it happen a couple of times in my Golf Gti.  Easy to swap out and then just flush your coolant system to get the oil residue out.

...Also a sign of a blown head gasket. The oil could leak out, dripping on floor, leak into waterways or vise-versa, emulsifying into mayonnaise or blow gasses out the leak. Usually, this will entail having the head skimmed and re-fitting with a new gasket. If the cooler seals are renowned to go though, I recon its more likely. Head gaskets usually go if you have driven hard and overheated, allowing the head to warp. I have no experience of heads warping on modern cars, just old school stuff.
