Fire extinguisher location

Featured Replies

Just taken delivery a new Octavia SELHatchback 1.5

In the manual it says there is a space for a fire extinguisher under the driver's seat with two straps with clips to hold it in place.

I can't find any straps under my seat.

"The fire extinguisher is attached by two straps in a holder underneath the driver's seat.
› To remove the fire extinguisher, release the safety catches on the two belts in the direction of arrow » Fig. 331 and remove the fire extinguisher.
› To secure, place the fire extinguisher back in the mount and secure with the belts.
The Owner´s Manual is fitted next to the fire extinguisher."

Also have same car delivered a few weeks back.

No fire extinguisher under my seat either. I'm guessing it's either an option or not part of UK spec?

I never saw it as an option when I was ordering my car, so guess its only for counties such as France where its law to have to carry one in your car.

I was not expecting a fireI extinguisher but got the impression from the manual that I could buy one and store it under the street using the supplied straps.

But no straps in place and I would have thought not enough space.

Doubt they would fit the straps if no extinguisher, probably come as one unit.

As extinguishers come with brackets just fit it in the boot somewhere.

as an aside I would highly recommend not fitting extinguishers in the cabin, having experienced a powder one accidently going off while driving its is not a good experience as fills the car & you cant see ****!!!! plus it makes one hell of a mess.

They are best off in the boot where they are contained plus only going to take a few extra seconds go run out & grab it.

I did a how to retro fit guide years ago (first mod I did to the car) on the MK7 Golf forum as these are mounted to the seat instead of the drawer.

The Skoda MK3 Octavia set up is here, & slightly different shaped bracket:-

As for storing in the boot.....having flipped a car on its roof & was partially trapped inside as drivers door was stuck & passenger door only opened a small amount which I squeezed out through...if a fire had started I'd wouldn't be here...you need them within easy arms reach....

I agree that something should be within arms reach, however a lot of thinking on extinguishers says you should really have something 2kg or more to have any chance of actually fighting the fire. Something that size gets in the way a bit no matter where you try and put them that is one of the reasons they tend to be fitted in the boot.

Having used THESE in anger a couple of times, I keep one of them within arms reach. Quite easy to find a place for it and 50 seconds of fire fighting is quite useful given most 'car' extinguishers only give 6-8 seconds at best.

No idea what that was due to language,...but looks like a flare type of extinguisher...

The stupid thing is that most cheap ones & what most people get are power......not good inside the cabin...you will suffocate....halon type (modern eco version) is ok..which is why they use it in motorsport & defence...

This is why I keep on of those emergency glass hammers in the glove box  ;)

Mine is a 2kg extinguisher as realistically anything small is not going to give you much chance unless you catch the fire as soon as it starts.

the zero 360 has almost twice the knock down compared to other systems..& a 1kg fits to the front of the drivers seat ok...

& glass hammers are useless on modern bonded front windscreens you can't hit it to shatter it (weaken it) & then kick it out...you need to punch holes into the corners & saw between them...

Had one of these in the glovebox since they first came out...mind you I used to sell them in my shop anyway..
