Idiots guide to replacing factory radio

Featured Replies

Got annoyed last week and bought a new radio for my Skoda and it’s wonderful, I can listen to it without the speakers cutting out!

however I current just have the radio slotted into the hole... it’s not put in properly.

My new radio came with a metal holder, that doesn’t seem to fit in the hole for me to put my radio in, and then the facia I bought doesn’t seem to sit over the front.

from other posts ive read a signal booster would be a good idea... it doesn’t seem to pick up many stations as the original one, so guessing this is a good idea

any pointers would be useful will get some photos later

You definitely need the booster as it allows the aftermarket head unit to work. Standard head units have it built into them. There are different boosters for different connector types on the back of the radio. If you post a pic of the aerial connector on the back of the new radio I will tell you which booster you need.

Need pics of the metal cage and facia issue.

If it is like mine, the cage is pretty much an interference fit into the hole. You might have to bend it narrower until it's in place, then straighten it, and/or use a small amount of oil or WD40 etc to help ease it in.

The cage should fit if you play around with it.
