Octavia Rear Wiper

Featured Replies

I have a 2003 Octavia where the rear wiper will operate on its intermittent setting regardless of the wiper switch position; the only problem is that the fault only happens every now and then. As the car is still under warranty, I have returned it to a Main Dealer who could find no fault whilst they had the car.

The fault seems to occur most in wet weather or driving up a steep incline or when a sudden change of direction is made or driving over speed humps. The main dealer has removed the trim to the tailgate and checked the motor and wiring to it, which proved OK. I too have tried shaking the tailgate quite hard with the ignition on to see if the fault is caused by vibration (faulty motor / defective wiring?) all to no avail.

I seem to recall that someone posted a message that VAG wiper switches were known for this fault (although on questioning, the main dealer replied that he had never encountered this before) and I am tempted to have the switch replaced out of my own pocket (warranty expires in May, and I don

Did you ever get a fix for this? My Octavia is goin back to the dealer tommorow for the 4th or 5th time for exactly the same problem. It's driving me mad!!!

Isn't this normal behaviour? Certainly my 52 plate Elegance only runs the rear wiper at one set delay, and its action is independant of the front wipers (switch moves at 90 deg to the way it moves for the fronts).

What we are saying is that the rear wiper works when it likes, regardless of whether it is switched on or not (slightly annoying).

Update on mine - they are talking to Skoda UK and want to keep it overnight (again).

FWIW, since the fault has been reported under warranty, they've now got to fix it, even if they can't do so before the warranty expires cos it's an intermittent fault.

Oh I know they've got to fix it, problem is I am tired of taking it back to them and being inconvenienced! I get it back and it seems ok, then it goes wrong again!

Has anyone else had problems with their rear wiper on the octavia as my 54 reg one rear wiper seems to be doing its own thing regardless of switch position?

many thanks
