Skoda Octavia FL VRS Heater Motor Issue

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Need some urgent advice as almost freaked out on the motorway and had to make an urgent stop on the hardshoulder due to a grinding / whining noise followed by a burning plastic smell :(

It all started off this morning after some heavy snow and after about 1 hrs driving I could hear some grinding noise coming from inside the cabin. Initially thought it was due to some road works :D However it stopped after some time and I didn't even think of it any further. However after returning from a late night movie with the Mrs and the noise came back and gradually became worse and this time heater was on full heat.

The noise got so bad that I came close to hard shoulder ready to pull and once I smelled burning plastic immediately pulled into the lane and stopped. Checked under the hood and couldn;'t smell anything :o and the strong plastic smell eventually went off from inside the cabin. So took the courage of driving home as was luckly 5 mins away. Got home hooked up VCDS and no errors and specially no HVAC erros.

After a bit of research and googling it seems to be pointing to heater motor due to something stuck in it or cloaged up pollen filter. If I have to will pull the heater motor out and inspect but what do you guys reckon could it definately be the heater motor?
