Fabia Vrs valuation

Featured Replies

Hi guy wondering if you could help me value a car I’m potentially buying. I personally think it’s over priced but it’s by far the best condition one I’ve seen!

2006

black

104k miles

completely standard.

Car is immaculate with only a few stone chips

interior is Mint

factory xoeons

cruise control

part service history half book is stamped but there is paperwork of invoices from the stamps which aren’t there.

only 1 key

the car is advertised at £2500 but I noticed it’s due Cambelt and a service so the garage has offered it to me at £2150.

i have a friend who works at scoda and can do me a Cambelt, waterpump and full service with genuine parts for £300

Cheers guys!

That sounds a pretty reasonable price. Particularly baring in mind the spec of it.

I bought my 2004 vrs last year, with 80k miles, reasonably immaculate condition but quite low spec (no xenon or cruise control) for £2.4k - that also needed cam belt doing, which I did myself, with genuine parts from skoda for around £100 off the top of my head.

Have you had a look through past MOT history? If that all looked okay then I would say £2k mark would be a bargain!

I’ve checked out all previous mot and seems all good. The car will also come with 12 months mot. I have offered the garage £2000 but they won’t have any of it so I’ve told him I’ll come up straight away with the cash if he changes his Mind.

I poated on the Skoda Fabia VRS page and they all think it’s way over priced. They all think 1800 max and this even if he gets the belts done :/

For the sake of £150 you might lose it, if you really like it that is

Can see in that pic you posted that rear bump stops on the rear shock absorbers need replacing - not expensive, but more ammunition to haggle with ;) good luck!!

I would say its priced a little high but if you could get it for 2k that would be more reasonable.

I paid 2k for mine with 120k miles but with cambelt and water pump done and turbo recently replaced.

Also i've got a top spec with xenon, cruise, heated seats, sunroof and ESP which is what attracted me to it

It looks like a standard clean looking car unlike most which have been modified and abused by now.

Bear in mind the xenon headlights will probably be past their best and replacements are hard to find and expensive

I do really like it but I budgeted for 1750, and this is the only one I’ve looked at and thought this is the one I want. Then turn out to need a Cambelt and service. So I thought I’d stretch to £2000. Then I’ll be spending £300ish on Cambelt/ service then maybe another £100 for a key and other little bits it could do with changing

The reflectors inside where the bulbs sit tend to go dull and burn out with age. You end up with dim headlights which are barely any brighter than standard halogens.

Depends how much they have been used i guess, but with over 100k on it I would imagine they wont be brilliant.

Got ya. So what is the fix for this? New headlights? Or is there a cheaper alternative?

Here are some other pictures, how do the xenon’s look? Or is it hard to tell?

Thanks

You won't be able to tell without using them at night and seeing how bright they are.

I wouldn't let it put you off the car, just one of those things which if they aren't any good you will have to spend a bit of money replacing them.

Also those rear bump stops will need replacing. Not a difficult job but would still cost a bit to get done at a garage.

The shiny bits are showing on the shock absorber.

Oh yea. That’s a pretty easy job this isn’t it? Just undo the shocks and slide new bump stops on? Would that fail on a Mot because of those? The car is waiting to go in for its Mot?

Mine was like that when I first got it and it still passed the MOT.

If all the work was done to rectify the faults between it failing the MOT and it getting the pass then that is a good thing.

I don’t think they fail at an MOT, but may be an advisory(?) not hard to replace but can end up difficult if you can’t get the nut off the top of the shock absorber which is easier said than done! They’re also not expensive (just under £20 a side I think) - the issue will be without the bump stops the plastic shock cover won’t sit in place, therefore exposing the seal between the two ends of the shock which after a while can deteriorate the shock.

It failed in January 14th and was 7 days until the passed 21st and 66 miles later.

So this is a test for the sale that will be done.

That’s correct it had a lot of failure on its last mot but they have all been sorted

Good, if retested at the same MOT station and all done and not just 'a friendly tester',

so all should be good for this test.

This next test for the sale of the car will be done somewhere else as it’s a trader selling it now. Once he’s taken a deposit it will get sent for a Mot. (I don’t normally like traders getting the mots as they tend to let a few thing go

Not many 'Traders' that do not have favoured testers, but then there are more honest ones than dishonest.

Enjoy the car, dont miss if for £150 if you are sure it is a good one.

Having just checked it’s not got great MOT history over the last few years! :D May act as a word of caution suggesting it hasn’t been desperately looked after......... however, also means you know what to look for when you see it/have it MOT’d to ensure it’s been sorted out.  I saw this listed week or so ago, it does look very tidy!! Plenty to haggle upon tho ;)
