Not many 'Traders' that do not have favoured testers, but then there are more honest ones than dishonest.

Enjoy the car, dont miss if for £150 if you are sure it is a good one.

I’m going to give the trader a few days then I’ll give him a call again.

But like I said I only budgeted 1500. Then I found this which I loved then I’ll need to get Cambelt etc done so going to cost 2500/600 with the bits done.

If he wont take 2000 next week I’ll just keep looking

Bump stops aren’t a testable item on an mot,  a picky tester may do a manual advise.

Price wise it’s at the upper end of  the scale but certainly not unreasonable especially from a trader.

Also depends what your after, if your going to keep it standard and that car feels right for the sake of £150 I’d buy it.

If you are planning to go hybrid ect I would buy one ready done you see some half decent examples floating round for that sort of money.

I’m just going to keep it standard as it’s just for commuting for work during the week and driving down to the in laws every other weekend and seen lots of people save the Mpg on these are pretty good.

I may stick a nicer exhaust on, remap and lower it a tad just to get it looking abit smarter

I’ll see what the trader says next week but I can’t afford to spend more than 2000 and then getting the Cambelt etc done, already pushing it as I only have about 1700 spare cash at the moment, money is tight right now as my daughter was born last Thursday and having to buy everyone Christmas presents lol

My 2p is - based on your budget, buy something a bit under budget or wait a bit longer because unexpected costs do crop up.

very sensible advice. If like you are saying its not had the best maintenance in the past its very likely things will need doing to keep it reliable.

Yea I totally agree that’s why I won’t go to the £2150 he want,

all the previous maintainence is spot on just hasn’t had a Cambelt. Or just there there not proof of it as it would of been 11 years with the original Cambelt

Jesus, this is like pulling teeth, if the car is more than you budgeted to spend then don't buy it, the next few months are the peak time for buyers because the car market is very depressed until the spring.

Keep trawling the ads until something comes up you can afford.

They say you should put £400 aside for any repairs when you buy a used car.

Have you thought about a Mk4 golf or Octavia, same engine a bit more room for baby stuff and it gives you a bit more to choose from when looking for a cheap one.

Theres plenty of cars around for your budget, just a case of waiting around and getting in there first, and I wouldn’t let niggles put you off they are not new cars any more, so your going to find something.

I said it’s more than I can afford but it actually isn’t. I just done want to be paying more that it’s worth after I’ve had all the bits done and the more and more I see get more and more expensive. Few people have said its valued quite high, If I can’t find any better then I’ll just buy it. In the mean time I’ll keep looking. Had enough of going to view cars which aren’t as described

EVERY car is overvalued at a dealer, it's how they stay in business, private sale is the only real way to bag a bargain if you're a cash buyer but you have to be prepared to walk away.

A car is a depreciating asset, it has no intrinsic value other than its utility for a buyer, if you plan to resell then you'll lose money even if you've done work on it. If you aren't reselling and plan to run the car into the ground than the purchase price is largely irrelevant, the cost of ownership then becomes the dominant factor.

If you like it and can afford it then buy it, bear in mind if you're trying to chip the dealer on price that he does this for a living and will already know you're on the hook anyway.

Hopefully this will help crystallise reality in your mind, meantime Happy Christmas and welcome to the show, we'll help you save a fortune when it starts to go wrong if you do decide to become a fellow Skoda owner.

Thanks mate. I’m viewing another car Wednesday. IF that’s no good I’ll just buy this one as I’d like one before Christmas as I’ll be doing a lot of miles.

I plan on using the Skoda untill I’ve saved up for a newer van as mines on its last legs and not suitable to be using every day (i use the van for Motocross but need to start using it for getting into work )

if i purchase it ill most probably be on here all the time asking questions.

Hope you have a good Christmas!

Have a look for common faults on fabia vrs on this site. Price is reasonable for dealer. Saw a yellow one, no xenon lights, for sale with 100k about same price but had alloys refurbed and cam belt ,tensioner and waterpump done recently.

Things that have been an issue include rear caliper seizing due to rubber softening, rear wiper hose popped off under bonnet. Rear console bushes front axle. Also rear shocks and rear axle bushes. Brake pedal switch. Radiator replaced , weeping at bottom near side corner. Fuel cap would not shut, cable had slipped ...there is pull lever next to drivers seat. Boost pipes leaking boost. Rear windows leak water internally. Maf sensor needed replacing .

Is it modified?  Get a 3 month warranty.

Thanks for that info mate, yes is comes with 3 months warranty and it’s completely standard! Once he’s taken deposit it gets mot’ed so hopefully some of those bits will be checked!

Yeah right, bent MOT's for the traders, come on dude!

You need to check this stuff yourself or get it inspected.

Haha don’t worry my cars go straight to my mechanic and luckily he works for Skoda!

And if you look at my last comment on page one I did write I don’t trust traders getting Mots as they let things go when They should fail

YEA it was

Lovely looking car and not been too heavily modified. Strange why it was specced with leather but no cruise control or heated seats. Bet your well pleased you didn't end up just paying the extra on the first one you looked at. Just loose those yellow/orange callipers!

Definite brain-fart on the calipers, paint 'em black/grey. Otherwise it looks super-nice.

I’ve ordered the cruise control stalk and the look bit, and I’m also getting the big brake upgrade as the standard ones are shocking! It had budgets on it but I’ve ordered a full set of rainsport 3’s which are getting fitted in the morning :)

and I’m over the moon with it! So glad I didn’t go for the other one

Got ya. So what is the fix for this? New headlights? Or is there a cheaper alternative?

You can open them up, and replate the reflector for like £30 each. I emailed someone about this for my Renault, so its not expensive :)

Lights are permasealed though, so to open them, you need a dremel really, and then you can close them up again with silicone or something of the like. Much cheaper than a new set! Then you can also clean the lens from any dust it may have and use some polish where needed.

Congrats on the purchase! I think I was looking at it on eBay, you've got a brilliant buy there :) Looks beautiful

Unfortunately you can't with the xenon lights, they do not sell new projectors its the whole light you have to replace. Skoda quoted me £450 each light for OEM. They can be split easy enough by putting them in the oven for a bit which melts the butyl enough for the lenses to be pulled off. Anyway this shouldn't be an issue with the car just bought as it has halogen lights and they look pretty clean.
