Auto-wiper sensor upgrade - Any Guidance?

Featured Replies

I currently have a 55 plate mk2 Octavia with the auto-wiper function. Needless to say, they have never worked properly and I always end up using the 'manual intermittent' option for over half the journeys I take in the wet (down press of the stalk when needed).

As a bit of a cloud with a silver lining, my Windscreen decided to crack the other week, so will need replacing soon. I've heard that there was a later version of the rain sensor fitted to VAG cars that can be retrofitted to the pre-FL mk2? If this is so, where can I get one, is it hard to do, and is there any difference when it comes to the windscreen that needs to be used?

Any help is much appreciated!

Rob

Hi Rob,

The sensor part number is 1K0 955 559 with suffix AF, AH, R, or M. Give your VIN number when ordering to check for compatibility. AF and AH are newer part versions. I don't know which ones are compatible with which CECM/BCM but generally the newer ones are backwards compatible.

It's probably something you've done but have you checked the area of the sensor for damage and wax from cleaning as it throws them off.

If you get a new sensor it's not hard to change but to save you the cleaning of the area etc find out from your local dealer which sensor you can use and order the newer sensor before changing the windscreen. It takes 2-3 days to come in usually once ordered or you could try eBay (I wouldn't personally for that item). When the guys come to replace the windscreen get them to fit it for you since they'll have to remove and transfer the rearview mirror to the new glass. Just remember to tell the windscreen guys that you want the windscreen with rain sensor. I'm not sure about pre-FL but I hear these days the newer screens come with sensor pre mounted. Check that too.
