Clutch noise as realeased - on idle

Featured Replies

Hi there,

New to forum.

Noticed that when I depress the clutch and on releasing it there is a metal on metal type noise just one clunk each time the clutch pedal is released.

It is coming from the engine nothing to do with the pedal.  Does not do it unless the engine is running. Not possible to tell if it does it in gear as I don't have the facility to check this.  I have reported it to dealer about six months ago and they said it was "normal" as I now have only a year left on the warranty, I wanted to check your thoughts on this before raising it again with my dealer.

Does yours do this?

Thanks everyone :)

Could someone check there's to see if it does the same please?  - Engine running in neutral, depress and release clutch.

Thanks!

Mine doesn't make such a noise.

I presume you mean ŕeleasing normally as in driving,  and not sidestepping the pedal?

Just normal as if changing gear - thanks!

Definitely not normal, mine makes no noise.

Do not let the dealer fob you off. Metal on metal sounds are not good.

If they keep sending you away contact Skoda UK and ask them to open a case for you...

Its just the release bearing on the clutch. Mine makes some noise. VW gearboxes are a bit noisy and clunky.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets excessively noisy.

Could just be the release bearing as it contacts the clutch fingers, or slight play in the bearing itself, again nothing to worry about, when/if it fails you will hear a fairly dramatic noise.

Sounds like just a bit of DMF noise, only got to worry if it's chattering on idle or you hear a really loud bang :)
