vRS not starting

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My vRS has decided to give me an early Christmas present by not starting its a 53 plate but 2004 if that makes a difference & its my second Mk1 vRS as they're brilliant IMO.

I have owned it 3yrs & am the 2nd owner neither of them have ever let me down until now :-(.

It appears to be fuel related as I cannot hear the pump buzzing when I turn the ignition on so with that in mind I sourced a 2nd hand pump & fitted it today still no pump noise & still not starting, I have tried to read the computer for faults but I don't have a full version of VCDS Lite so many modules are not active & I went to upgrade but not sure about when I might receive the activation code due the holidays.

I have checked what I think is the Fuel pump relay manually, basically touching relay 4 under the dash while turning the ignition on & off which seems to be working although no guarantee I know just wondering if there was anything else I should check?

I have a multimetre & am thinking I should check if the pump has a feed does anyone know which pins at the pump I should test?

The engine check light wasn't on prior to it not starting & I drove it home with no problems, just wouldn't fire the next time I tried!

Any advice greatly appreciated,

Kr

Alex

Bypass  the relay with a split pin or piece of wire in case the relay has failed internally. Quite common. If the pump fires then its the relay, if not then check feeds at pump. Not sure what pins but typically there will be 4 wires, just put the meter on the two thickest wires.

Hi Jux,

Thanks for the reply :-) Any idea on which pins activate the relay? looking at the diagram on the side of the relay its pins 2 & 8 that I would need to bridge is this correct? it also doesn't identify which is the Pos or Neg!
