Electronic log book for trip recordings

Featured Replies

Hi Skoda community.

I understand there are online or mobile device applications that have the capability to communicate with the latest Columbus infotainment system but what is important to me is the automatic recording of trip distances/locations for means of a log book for tax purposes. I do not believe the model I have has any of the SmartGate features but it can do CarPlay via USB. I gather the car cannot do CarPlay wirelessly (please correct me if I'm wrong).

My main question is how can I use any of the available apps (MyŠkoda or OneApp) to communicate with the car's trip details and record them online for me to provide to the taxation accountant at the end of the financial year? Thanks for all the advice.

I think you need Skoda Connect for this to work unfortunately.

Android phones do this by default, but as you mention carplay I assume you have Apple.

Sign up for a GPS Telemetry System/service. Our vans have a JCB Livelink Lite system and get weekly reports on their location and mileage (GPS based). Some other data is available too but it depends what information is on the CAN the Module is connected to.

So if the country I live in is not listed among those that the website offers (http://skoda-connect.com/), does it matter if I select another country (such as the UK) and will it still work then for me in Australia?

That is correct. I assume then there is the need for an app to communicate with the car's computer data, and this is the Connect app mentioned before? I do have the MyŠkoda and OneApp apps, though I can't seem to get them to communicate with the car after registering a name and password. Is there something else to these apps that I'm missing?

This seems superfluous to what the car seemingly should be doing already (i.e. it already has sat nav and uses GPS to record routes, distance and times travelled). I thought there would be a simple solution to obtain this data that I could just tap into for accounting purposes.

Oh, and merry Christmas everyone.
