ERRATIC FUEL CONSUMPTION, 1.6tdi 2012

Featured Replies

Maybe. Could be a failing or blocked injector (one or more of the holes). No smoke evident because DPF stops that, but you mentioned a smell...

Millers diesel ecomax is as good at cleaning as using premium fuel with the advantage you can but a bigger dose in to clean up injectors quicker and its much cheaper. Worth a go.

The other elementary checks are check for fuel leaks (eg fuel filter?), or is someone simply siphoning or fiddling the fuel ?

Hi ,

I'm interested in this problem , my 2012 1.6 cr  Miles Per Gallon seems to have taken a dive in the past couple of months.

It started with a glow plug warning , a smell which I thought was it regenerating and now I've noticed the MPG has dropped from 59.6 mpg in "16" , and 61.2 MPG last year to approx. 44.1MPG so far this year.  This could rise a little or not  when I use the fuel in tank. My average over 41000 miles is 58.9 MPG. The total mileage is 52000 and running is mostly mixed A roads with some town work.

The glow plug in no 2 cylinder was reading faulty so it was changed along with the rest just in case.

And  I did have not have the pollution Mods.

Going to try Redex , it works well with my old berlingo 1.9d.

Had the car on diagnostic...NO errors, zilch, nothing , zero.  No sticking brakes, no faulty injectors or glow plugs, no fuel leaks.  And no one fiddling fuel or syphoning it.  The only issue the car has is it's air conditioning is not working....but it never has. I do not understand this issue at all
