New Wheeler Dealers - life without Ed and Ant!

Featured Replies

Goblin Works Garage and Yianni.

Depressing, very depressing. Just more 'Reality' TV carp but mildly car flavoured.

Climbing on, pi##ing on and then internationally crashing a car that you are supposedly in the business of restoring / improving. There are impressionable children watching this sort of nonsense and thinking this is the way to go.

'A car is born' / 'A car is reborn' / 'A bike is born' was a good format, entertaining but with some risk of learning something along the way.

  • Out of loyalty to Edd I won’t be watching.

  • I have to agree re the white wheels. Had a set of 5 spokes on a white Subaru Legacy Turbo back in the early 90’s and it looked very nice......but it was ‘rally’ inspired I suppose....   As f

Don't you just love predictive text? ;)

I watched the Yianni programme for the first time last night, was not sure on the wrap on the p1 but it looked a good programme.

Well spotted

.....but.

You thought I meant to type intentionally?

Couldn't possibly say a thing like that - clearly a 100% genuine accident, can't believe it would have been a cheap ploy scripted in for a bit more tension / drama.

Just referring to the international nature of the media.

Just as long as we remain happy little consumers.

I've just watched the episode with the 3000 GT4 and it was great. I get the impression that Ant really does know his onions and in some ways is more attentive to detail than Ed was. I realise that sounds like heresy, but even though I still miss Ed, I'm finding myself enjoying watching Ant ;):blush

So that looks like the series is wrapped up and I have to say I loved it. I definitely have a small crush on Ant and think he is a genuine car restorer type of bloke. From what I gather he really is rather good at bodywork and I like the easy way he describes what he's doing. It might not be a techy as Ed, but in his own way, just as good I think. I also like the way he doesn't wear gloves  ;)

I never understood all the faf about Ed china leaving and people saying they would never watch the programme again. Ant is a far more accomplished engineer with a wider track record. I would suggest getting rid of Mike Brewer and put Edd and Ant together. Then watch the ratings go up. Best car show on telly? Its got to involve Farm Truck.

Oh no, I'd have to keep Mike Brewer. Cheesy as a bag of Wotsits, but I enjoy his quick appraisals of the cars they buy. Besides I'm still struggling to get used to that Rory bloke on Top Gear, I couldn't cope with any more car related trauma in my life. Although if George Clooney was to front Wheeler Dealers, that might be a different story :)

I remember Top Gear.

I still can't see how a proper mechanic would have clean nails if he or she didn't wear gloves? I have seen Ant on that show where they auction mega expensive exotica and he is very watchable in that too :)

Indeed.

I did my trade 35 years back when nobody wore gloves and these days only pick up a spanner every few months.  I try and wear gloves but invariably take them off for some reason and forget to put them back on because the habit isn't ingrained.  Finger nails are dirty and torn within 15 minutes.

I wondered if anyone is watching the current series? I quite like American cars so don't mind the fact that they work on a few, but they also pander to European style cars too :)

The more I watch Ant, the more I like him  he is very easy on the eye indeed :blush

I've also come to the conclusion that although Ed was my first love (in a mechanic on TV way :D) Ant is my second. He maybe isn't quite as 'engineering' based in his pieces to camera, but I think he is a better bodywork guy (:blush) than Ed and seems to have a genuine skill for it. He also seems to me at least, to be more of a 'car guy' than Ed. Ed is obviously a talented engineer and is excellent at being really tall, but I have come to enjoy the show once more and the ratio of Mike to Ant seems a similar one to the previous Mike-Ed.

Overall it's a bit like when you get a new Dr Who, at first you think they are never going to be as good as the previous, but then after time you grow to love the new Dr (although there have been a few stinkers that are exception to the rule :D)

I'm a happy bunny, especially when Ant starts lifting heavy things :blush

So the new series has kicked off and the boys did up a Capri 2.8. The USA spec wasn't as pretty as the UK spec but it was great to see one on telly again. Plus, Ant is a real 'dreamboat', :inlove: who doesn't like a strong man who is good with his hands :blush

I only wish they did a 90 minute show rather than the slightly rushed 60 minute version. I could watch Ant flexing his muscles and making bespoke parts all day (I refrained from so many double entendres in this post...)

'GOBLIN WORKS GARAGE',  as in away to come on.   They turn out some ugly cars like last weeks Mini Clubman, and it looks like tonight's BMW.

They are only a little less annoying than those on 'Speed Freaks'.

Sorry to steal a thread, i feel compulsed to watch just how crappy they can be,

but Goblin Works Garage do not deserve one of their own IMO.

Just out and buy engines at however many thousands of Quid, Euro or Dollars, like $17,000 for the VW van Drag Van in the US.

Or an engine from Sweden for a Volvo or from England for a Mini.

The Wheeler Dealers on now on Quest

with them in America is a cracker with a MINI MC40.    Worth a watch.

Ed's approach always reminded me of the philosofy of the lot older Mechanic in charge of the GPO fleet garage we took our old vans into. At that time we Telephone engineers were responsible for minor servicing of our vans. The MIC would take us through the service schedule and ( if we showed interest) go into a lot of detail on how things worked. As a result I and a mate gained a lot of mechanical experience. Problems with your car- MIC would advise and sometimes a spare part, with help on fitting turned up. Old part was sent back as a faulty part. As a result backs were scratched a lot. It did help both ways. I had a points problem miles out in the country. MIC talked me through it .it saved him sending out a tech to sort out a problem I could do a temporary fix on . Edd advised on what was possible and practical, and on the othr hand gave out any safety advice on what not to do.

This thread needs a re-title. Life without Ed and Ant should be added :(

Looks like the show is coming back to the UK :) but Ant is staying in the USA    Elvis, (who does the Dream Car thing with Mike Brewer) is taking over form Ant and I find him a bit dour to be honest. Ant is much more fun (and very easy on the eye :) ) Also it's amazing to see him working with a rotten body (a sort of super-Mr Motivator with a spanner - see what I did there).

  • Lady Elanore changed the title to New Wheeler Dealers - life without Ed and Ant!

I'm so glad you posted that, I like Wheeler Dealers but have become less and less a fan of Mike Brewer as time has gone on, seeing him being more of his-self and not playing to the camera he appears to be a really decent chap (albeit with some dodgy syrups :D) so my view has changed.

All he needs to do now is stop sitting on/leaning against cherished car bonnets & wings & dropping bonnets with a slam to close them!!!

  • 9 months later...

on Quest tonight, 10 -10.30 pm & 10.30 - 11 pm.
