I've had my VRS for about 8 months now and slowly starting to rectify all the issues that it has. 

 

One which im yet to find out is the strange wobble I get from the car.

 

any sort of bump in the road and the steering wheel wobbles as such, it's like driving a jelly is the best way I can describe it. It's unstable along the road, I drove my mates vrs a good hour last night to NYE Fireworks and his is like a completely different car! Granted his has coilovers but it's so smooth makes his feel like a Bentley and mine like a reliant! Even when accelerating hard the car torque steers massively at times pulling aggressively across the road. Where do I start? Is this 140k suspension? As Weitec coilovers are replacing my standard setup soon, or is it bushes? Or something as simple as alignment? It's very hard to describe but the easiest way is like driving a jelly. Really wobbly and every little imperfection In the road the steering wheel reacts

Worth replacing with polybush? They a pig to do or fairly easy? Seen polybush replacement on eBay for around £30

The standard suspension is truly awful when it's new. In so far as sporty driving is concerned. I can't imagine 140K miles and years of wear improves it.

 

If you're looking at bushes.....

Check the console bushes and the engine/gearbox dogbone.

Console bushes will almost certainly need replacing if they're the "void/holey" type. Best compromise is Seat Cupra solid rubber bushes. Though there are Meyle HD somes now which are apparently a little softer and obvs PolyU which are harder.

PolyU bush the front suspension front bush is also popular among the harder core trackday types.

Replace the console bushes first. I used PSB ones and they have so far been excellent. Easy to install as well as no press tools required. I can't say i've noticed any increase in vibration, just a much tighter feel to the steering.

Also look at getting the alignment done. I had it done and completely transformed the car. I had the alignment done not long after after fitting new bushes so cant say 100% but I know my torque steer was reduced massively and hard braking was possible without the car squirming around.

I know exactly what you mean about the suspension in general though, mines 130k on standard and feels like a boat at the best of times.

You may want to replace a lot of things. Track rod ends, balljoints, console rear bushes (cupra ones are apparently much the same as poly, certainly work for me)

 

your steering could also be inner track rod joints or related to tracking.

 

IMO - best to get it all done when you instyall coilovers then get some decent tyres and alignment

Thankyou for the replys. The car had it's MOT and the only two things on the advisorys were leaking rear calipers which I was aware of a NSF track rod end. There was no mention of the bushes however I polybushed the entire car for my track car and it completely transformed the car so it's certainly something I'm going to do with the fabia. 

 

On the fabias is it worth polybushing the lot? Or just the console bushes and addition of RARB with coilovers of course. I've got a fast car built for going as fast as possible so don't really want to go too mad on the fabia but I do want to have fun in it all the same as currently it makes me cry not smile haha. 

Think of the intended purpose of the car. If it's for commute plus road stuff, maybe only change the console bushes for Cupras?

It's only worth doing the console bushes, the front wishbone bushes are already solid rubber and the rear beam is as well, ARB bushes don't do anything other than locate the ARB so polybushing them is a complete waste of money.

 

Console bushes, RARB, shocks, then springs in order of importance. Get the track rod ends done as well since they're an advisory.

Console bushes are going to be changed probably for Powerflex or equivalent just for ease of fitting and never had an issue with powerflex parts. Coilovers are more for looks and of course handling but more for looks, on the spiders it looks like a monster truck!

Lovely that clears that up then! I'll get the console bushes sorted out! I'll pop them in same time as fitting the coilovers as it will already be disassembled do it all in 1 hit. Makes life easier that way! 

 

Does the RARB make a big difference to the fabia? 

Yes, allows you to '**** a leg' during hard cornering.

lol I know what you mean, tripod for the infant spec forum board haha. 106 doesn't stop cocking it's leg, when one of the drop links went I could almost see the boot out the windscreen haha
