Mine is in for Tuesday so I'll update after ten. Mine is still a right royal PITA. I wish it had normal struts tbh. Hardly an effort lifting it eh? I had great customer service from White Dove in Card

Car at the dealers today. The response I anticipated was proven:

"Sorry sir, we've found nothing wrong with the powered tailgate. No fault codes recorded...."

So it's working perfectly ...... ATM!! I'm sure it'll play up again soon.

I received the email with the link to the video inspection while I was waiting. The background noise in the workshop was quite loud and I couldn't fathom why he ended the video by mumbling "Thank you, Judy Garland." until I realised it was actually "Thank you for choosing Garland."

"Her daughter was Liza Minelli"

"WHAT?!"

"Your car is ready"

Thanks for the update BillyJim.

I've asked for the start stop software update to be performed whilst my car is with the dealer.

The moment my tailgate plays up again....as I'm sure it will.... I'll insist on a new locking mechanism.

Judy Garland! Still laughing....

OK Mine has done it again this morning. Unlocked all the way into work so no Maxidot due to tailgate warning or desmist / rear wipe.

I've taken a video of it doing it and will post later.  I'll call the dealer tomorrow to book it in.

Mine is still in the dealers whilst gearbox fault is rectified. 3 weeks! I'm assured the tailgate works fine though. Wish I shared their confidence.... I'll report when I get the car back.

3 weeks? Got to be a warranty job?

Tis indeed. I hope it'll be perfect when I get her back! I'm not very impressed by the length of time this is taking. I've involved skoda customer care for advice.

Wish I had dsg ....

I had forgotten I had posted this thread so an update :-)

Motor went in a couple of months ago to have the tailgate looked at. Unfortunately the fault could not be replicated.

Weather colder now so locking again became a problem. Booked the car in a couple of weeks ago and luckily a fault code had been logged.

A motor was replaced and I went home a happy man !

Until the very next day when it did it again lol !

Refused to lock tonight on way on way home from work. Real pain as I have no rear wipe no demise and no info in the maxidot.

Of course as on every occasion when I arrived home locked fine. Car booked in early Feb for another go.

Ok car been in and the control board ( or similar ) has been replaced. So far so good !

Spoke too soon lol ! Had to go into work early this morning and failed to lock. Also failed to lock on way home but locked at home. Now been in for diagnostics and repair 6 times I think in one way or another.

2 Main worries :

1) One day it's not going to lock and i'm going to have to leave the car unlocked all day.

2) I go on holiday and it doesnt lock which will really leave me up #### creek without a paddle.

In that scenario I would have to leave the car unlocked for a week in the airport carpark. Also looks like the tailgate lights stay on so probably a flat battery.

Have to say even my almost unlimited patience is starting to wear thin......

I sympathize with you entirely.  I was faced with the dilemma of my tailgate not closing over the entire 2017 Xmas period.  What got me was it's arbitrary function. Locked some days... Refused to on others.  Mine appeared fine after it was reprogrammed. Apparently the tailgate can be told when to engage the striker. Mine appeared to 'grab' too soon. A friend of mine in the trade suggested the striker be adjusted to accept the grab action more easily. I could see the sense in that and was going to investigate further if the dealer reprogramme wasn't successful. Might be an option for you? Normally the strikers are held by a couple of  star bolts.  I really hope this gets sorted for you.

Car back in to have latch mechanism replaced.

They were unable to ascertain the exact cause so they have ordered all the necessary parts to replace the entire hatch locking mechanism under warranty.

Mine's behaved since they replaced the latch/locking mechanism. There was no mention at the time of them having replaced a control board or any electrics.

As it cured mine I hope that it will cure yours too.

Hi

my car superb 3 (2016)

Also i went to Car service with same problem

god damned tailgate is not whirring anymore when shuting down but im sure it used to whirr before

Technician changed lock mechanism and we compared it with same model-year car.

First of all, parking on a flat floor is important, because when car at the climb, god damned tailgate is showing different reactions

these results for 2016 model-year superb

other cars would have different reactions because of their different software, we test it, too

-when door or windows are open it doesnt whirr

-when ignition on, and kessy is in the car, it doesnt whirr, even doors and windows are closed it doesnt whirr in this situation.

-when the ignition off and doors and windows closed, it will start whirring again.

and the last but the most important thing is, if tailgate shutdown but not whirring, dont be worried. Its still locking the tailgate.

You can test it that way. Stop the car, ignition off, stay in the car. lock the doors with kessy. Hold lid’s button and open the tailgate. Then press the lid’s button on kessy two times but hold second time until tailgate start closing. After tailgate close down, if it locks the lid without whirring you will hear another whirring of unlocking the lid. And at the same time you will see an attention on maxidot saying tailgate is open. Its a safety precaution against forgetting key in the trunk. If the key in the car, its unlocking the lid. As a result of this you will trust your car, she shows you immediately on the maxidot if the tailgate is unlocked.

Had this on first cold morning. Opened it to put stuff in. Hit the close button, got in car, drove about 100m before noticed the warning of boot open pix. Pulled over, tried to close, it pulled in, seemed to close then about 5 seconds later released and moved a few mm. Drove home, read forum posts, tried hairdryer to defrost..nope.. sprayed lithium grease in.. left it a few mins...noope... Had a coffee, tried again, nope.. cursed technology... left it an hour as weather warming up now..  about to abandon all hope and it shut and engaged .. no warning. Will not be unlocking it tomorrow morning!. Will check lock/clean/regrease on weekend.🥶😧

I'm pretty sure you will be wasting your time. I went through all that including a fair few trips to dealers before they changed the locking mechanism which fixed.

Ok will give them a call and see if they'll do it under warranty

  • 2 weeks later...

in my case,
changing the lock mechanism did not resolve my problem, like most of you, the vacuum (soft close) did not work when I parked the car on a slope way.

i realised, the main problem is that the lock loosens from the lock slot.
when i fill the trunk to the top, stuffs in trunk slowed down the lid and lock was closing properly ( vacuum soft close also works so whirring noise can be heard  :) )

I shared this observation with the foreman when I went to the service.
he corrected looseness in luggage lock.
and god thanks the soft close started to work well when the luggage is also empty.

i shared the video, you will see these in the video:

The baby stroller supports the tailgate, so the vacuum is working properly

When I remove the stroller, the trunk lid goes down too far, so the trunk is locked once and the vacuum does not need to be activated.

but when I put the stroller back, it holds the tailgate in the proper position and the vacuum is activated to close the lock

My friend had the same problem last year, I think I know what it is all about.

Hi to all.

Because I have the same problems like in this thread I wont open new topic.

Did someone found sollution fro this locking problem?

I played allot with tailgate and I found this:

1. If the car is running the tailgate closes and lock without a problem

2. If there is only a contact (without engine running) the tailgate closes and lock without a problem

3. If the contact is off  (of course engine not running) the tailgate closes but not lock at the end.

I think there is smome issue with electric?
