  • Hi. Mine has been fine since the locking mechanism was changed. On another note your post is probably one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of reading and maybe the best first post I have ever

Mine is in for Tuesday so I'll update after ten. Mine is still a right royal PITA. I wish it had normal struts tbh. Hardly an effort lifting it eh? I had great customer service from White Dove in Card

What do you mean by 'not locking'? Mine goes down then sits just proud of it's final, closed position before the struts pull it home.

I've just been out and checked mine.  If the car is unlocked with the key in the cabin then I could open the boot from the outside.  If the car is locked but the key is out of range (I took it back in the house) then the boot won't open.  I would assume that the auto-locking above 15mph (or whatever the threshold is) also locks the boot.

What are you experiencing?

I posted about that a while ago - February 2017.

The electric tailgate would close, you'd hear a whirring of the locking mechanism and then the boot would pop partially open again.

IIRC I had to lock the car completely then manually push the boot lid back down to get it to lock.

It happened three or four times in close succession and I was considering taking it to the dealer but after I mentioned it in this forum it never did it again.

I don't know if it's temperature related. It's been colder this winter than it was last winter but it hasn't recurred.

When I took it in for service some six months later I asked them to check the boot but no surprise that they couldn't find anything wrong.

Update on this. Appears to be getting worse. Couple of times I've had to drive to work with the tailgate open ! When things have warmed up no problem.  I'll book it in the next couple of weeks to have it looked at along with a seized air vent.

I have exactly the same problem. It's a bloody nuisance. A complete lottery whether it locks or just sits loose on the seal. Dealer failed to fix on first visit, I'm booked in for next week for 2nd attempt. I'm told it's a programming issue rather than mechanical. Good luck getting your fault rectified.

Should have added that temperature is irrelevant in my case....

Damn, spoke too soon!

@Nick_H @MarlboroLites  Any joy getting yours fixed?

After 12 months of trouble-free locking mine has recurred with a vengeance. Last time it would at least lock by pushing it down but now it completely refuses to lock. Of course it had to start Friday night when there's no tech personnel available at the weekend so it's a visit to the dealer first thing on Monday. I checked using VCDS and it's logged as a fault.

I'm still sceptical about it being temperature related. Worked fine at -11ºC then failed at -2ºC.

Not yet BJ going to drop them a mail Monday. Keep you posted.

Mine is in for Tuesday so I'll update after ten. Mine is still a right royal PITA. I wish it had normal struts tbh. Hardly an effort lifting it eh? I had great customer service from White Dove in Cardiff when this problem first arose... NOT. It was mid December and I phoned to see if a techie to plug in a diagnostic to be told I'd have to wait till Feb for an appointment.... It didn't seem to matter that this presented a security issue. V poor and a complaint was registered.

Electric Hatch remains in closed position, just not locked. Fortunately weight and struts prevent it bouncing when driving and it's stiff to open manually, hopefully enough resistance to dissuade any casual car park chancers.

Electric opening and closing works normal - just not the locking mechanism.

I suspect I might regret asking what may be a really stupid question @BillyJim, but how do you know it isn't locked? Listening for a non-existent whirring from the mechanism? Pulling it open without pressing the opening mechanism? I have Kessy so am always a bit paranoid about whether the car is locked when I am away from it. I'd be interested to know if there is anything else I should be checking re the hatch. Thanks.

Mine bounces around off the tailgate seal. It's issue is one of the tailgate failing to lock in place. The struts raise and lower the tailgate very capably. What's lacking is the final lock cycle when you can here a whirring noise as the lock grabs the tailgate and sucks itself to the door seal. The final movement is maybe 5mm.

Mine needs a Gorilla grip to lift the flap and the tailgate - maybe it has too much pressure on the seal or are all Yetis like that?  Wifey complains and I'm sure other ladies would feel the same way. I've wondered if anything can be done? I rather like the Volvo way of pressing a button inside and have it open itself! But looking at a V.W I have, the gas struts always bias towards close at the end and electrical release on its own wouldn't lift this heavy tailgate. Sometimes it feels like it's the heaviest and strongest part of the car (except for the heavy seats).

I’m so pleased I’ve specced the electric tailgate in my new Superb... :o

You'd know if you had this problem and it's very much as MarlboroLites describes.

I have the electric hatch, KESSY and easy access (foot kicking sensor).

The hatch functions as it should for opening and closing, be it the console switch, the fob, the switches on the hatch, or the kick.

When the hatch is already open and you use any of those methods to close it the hatch lowers to the closed position and you can hear what sounds like a faint hum of a servo mechanism for a few seconds, followed by a clunk as if something has disengaged. There is a barely noticeable rise in the hatch. With ignition turned on the MFD will display the vehicle status with the hatch shown as being open (red).

Even though the hatch is not secured I still get the audible chirrup and flash of indicators when I open the hatch (other than pulling it up manually which actually requires a bit of effort). Nor does it have any adverse effect on setting the alarm and locking the doors.

with my liftback, i can hearing a whirring and a click after the boot closes - indicating to me that its "locked".
similarily, when i press the unlock (via any method) i can hear a mechanism in action, realising the locks, before the boot starts opening up.

Thanks for the replies. Relieved to say mine works like JR RS but I'm still new to the "magic" of kessy so don't fully trust it yet.

It will be very interesting to hear what the resolution is for this one so looking forward to seeing updates from those affected.

I'm not usually one for anthropomorphism, but my car is most certainly taking the pith.

10:00 At home. Cold tyre and fluids check. Hatch still refusing to lock/secure.

10:30 Arrived at dealer and ... the bloody hatch locks. Repeated opening and closing and every time it locks.

Booked in for diagnostics in 10 days time. Could have been earlier but that was the first date they could guarantee while-you-wait.

Mine has behaved impeccably today ..... Day before return visit to supplying dealer! I'm already anticipating a "Sorry sir, we couldn't identify a problem..." response. Grrrr.....

So frustrating @BillyJim. You said you had a VCDS fault logged when you checked it. Is it worth putting on here so @MarlboroLites can show it to his dealer? Sorry - don't understand VCDS so no idea if that would help or not.

Probably a nonsense theory - but does it lock properly in other locations too? If you find it's only at home it doesn't lock, or even if a certain set of circumstances is met, I'd be thinking of possible electrical interference from something in the area of your house, or even a device you have with you. You know how various cases come up of remote locking not working due to the signal being scambled by a poorly insulated electrical device somewhere?

Probably rubbish.

Definitely nonsense.

Wibble.
